Hi guys, new member here. I've done a lot of reading through posts and stickys here and have decided on trying out a norinco. I just ordered one off of Valleyguns.com. So I have a few questions beginning my new endeavor here. First, I'm thinking of a few quick mods to increase accuracy and reliability. Where is the best place to get an op rod spring and guide, and is it worth it to get a usgi bolt as well? I plan on keeping this an iron sights gun, but I'm seeing a low confidence in the norc rear sight, where can i pick up a proper one if need be? And lastly, what is the community thoughts on the best stock that is also an easy swap? Thanks in advance, this is my 1st semi auto rifle and should be a huge learning experience!

If you're planning on sticking with irons, do you want to stick with a classic looking walnut stock? If so try a Boyd's Walnut, they're pretty light and the few I've seen seem like a bargain.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to replace the bolt. Send three pieces of fired brass to Tactical Teacher on here and he can tell you your headspace, (at least he used to offer this service), then you can decide if you need to do something with it.

i was thinking for a stock possibly the archangel, but it seems to need some slight modification to fit the m305 receiver. I would just like a stock that fits nice and doesn't require bedding for accuracy

It doesnt, my AA stock fit fine. Holds it in quite snug too.

If you plan on mounting a scope, the clip guid will need to be unpinned and hammered out, use a scrap block of wood as a punch as to not damage the metal. M1A clip guides slide out one way, Norcs make no difference, either direction is fine. The mounting screw will be too big to fit the Norc's undersized hole, just find a replacement bolt at Home Depot and you're set.

buy your bits and pieces from treelinem14.com

also, spcamno on the board sells an NM rear peep sight. It's a quality piece. You can order the NM front blade sight from Springfield armory directly (speak to their international sales department) or Brownells

The archangel isn't drop in and go.
Needs the same trimming to the top right surface under the oprod.
And the front sling stud removed and. Shortened a 1/8th inch so it doesn't hit the gas cylinder (unless they fixed that one)

As a new m305 owner, have a cruise thru the stickies above. The minor fitting required for M1A wood (boyd's) and plastic (springfield and archangel) stocks is detailed quite well.

I fitted a AA stock to my socom took a little time but well worth it! Nothing hard about it ,exacto knife and a couple of files all it took and may be a small chisel 1/4 good and sharp. The trigger and garde took the most work to fit. Use lip stick to see where it needs to be shaved to fit, tight is best. A little at a time and all will be good:cool:.

nice rifle, is that white paint on your front site? I want to stay with irons on my M1A but I find it hard to see the front post sometimes(on a black bullseye).

Yes, I will mic your 3 pcs of fired brass. Just send it to me and I will get your chamber/brass size back to you. Understand most of the Norc rifles gauge around 15 thou over the 1.630" SAAMI Go gauge. Don't be alarmed, it's that large for a reason. Think of bolt interchange ability in the middle of the bush/field/urban environment. Hey, it's a battle rifle. Get used to it.

Actually the Springfield M1A rifles coming my way have been made with 2 thou chambers or 1.632" headspace and that's pretty nice and tight for a battle rifle.

Yeah, I like irons too. Buy your rear replacement irons from treelineM14 since he does ship to Canada.

Enjoy the addiction! Now how about a range report? All good fun!

Cheers and keep helping the noobs out there!

Its true, but with basic tools and limited knowledge they can be fitted. this was my first rifle, and while it took me a bit to fit it in, trial and error, came out great! Castle nut for mine (troy battle rail) was harder than heck!

Thanks for the help guys. I'm pretty certain that when i do get a stock it will be the blackfeather. But for now, once the gun arrives I'm just gonna shoot it and enjoy it for a while.

I had one and bought the AA stock. It was awesome and a great value for what you get and the mod to fit is so minor it's not worth worrying about.

I love the looks of an M1A and I am going to own one sooner rather than later. I have some questions about our Canadian Norinco imports but I will post them on another thread. Thanks

It arrived today! A first initial look at the gun (after wiping off the generous amount of oil) i see a small blemish on the stock by the charging handle, and the windage knob is very tough to adjust. However elevation turns and clicks very well. Front sight isn't noticably off centre. It is simply put a nice rifle to hold. First shots should happen tomorrow after a more thorough cleaning.
