Ordered my first SKS! Russian laminate

Ordered from Gotenda anyone with any experience ordering from them?
Are there sks rifles usually in decent condition normally proably be a bit before I see it with all going on currently.

I ordered a russian laminate as I just like the look of them more and have read they are more durable stronger and less likely to crack price was 349.99 Days of those 150$ ones are gone from stores anyway.
I have watched some videos on cleaning processes and think im going to go with boiled water and mineral spirits for metal parts and for the stock heat it with hair dryer or heat gun slightly to remove cosmoline with rags as I do not have a iron here.

Depending on condition of the rifle I plan to refinish the stock wood only no plastic tapco stocks or bubbaing as I have read around here although some of them look cool to ea there own LOL other then refinishing keeping it original I know some guys are not big on this either but I like the look of them refinished and IF its not a collectable one and just going to be a shooter.

However if its matching non refurb etc or somehow a collectable one I would not touch it but I doubt its going to be lol.

Plans to use stripper on stock Sand stock start at 80 120 220 then 0000 wool clean off minwax stain not sure if I will use red mahogoney, dark walnut, red oak or expresso yet... I already have dark walnut here though.
After staining it 400 gritt the colour down some and lighten up some of it then im not sure if I should use tung oil to finush or tru oil 0000 steel wool between coats of finish and may even use some 1500 wetsand on the very finished coat once fully dry depending on how she looks

(Of course all depends on if its worth leaving orig or not)

Any advice for the cosmoline clean up or refinishing procedure feel free to chime in.

Also if anyones interested in throwing up there refinished stock sks throw it in comments like to see some others that have done them espicially laminate ones

I have watched some videos on cleaning processes and think im going to go with boiled water in 5 gallon pail for metal parts with mineral spirits added to that boiling water and for the stock heat it with hair dryer or heat gun slightly to remove cosmoline with rags as I do not have a iron here.

Congrats buddy . but I hate to tell you this you might get hooked on them . If I was you and it's your choice I'd try to stick with the red colour that they came with . it's a thing of beauty. and I'm glad that your staying with a wood stock . remember that when you have the bolt in your hand and shake it the firing pin has to slide back and forth . you can see it and hear it . I'm not sure but at the top of the page here you might find something on how to clean them properly . the stock and metal parts . I just blast them out with carb cleaner .

and when you chamber a round always let the bolt slam home don't ride it forward. and if you shoot corrosive ammo out of it clean it . boiling water . I could tell you a boat load of stuff but I have to get going . good luck have fun and be careful . ps the 1949 to 1950 models have a spring around the firing pin . late 1950 ? or 1951 on have free floating firing pins. if the firing pin doesn't float back and forth you can get a slam fire. this is why I'd telling you to make sure she's clean . don't oil the firing pin .

Depending on the amount of Cosmo to take out, and the ventilation where you are working good old WD-40 works like a darn in the mechanics and leaves rust proofing lube behind. Make sure to clean the bolt and firing pin. When reassembling the gun the firing pin shd rattle freely when the bolt assembly is shaken back and forth. If the firing pin is sticky it may slam fire (discharge as it goes into battery)

there is a stickey at the top of the red rifle forum that well tell you everything that you will need to know about the sks and its all its variations

Enjoy your sks! I’ve found the laminate stocks to be pretty good and don’t really need any refinishing
A lot of times the ones with laminate stocks come with a hardwood gas tube cover which is annoying
Got a couple that are like that, wish they came with laminate covers to give the proper look

The biggest problem that I see here is that… And you need to be careful… just like Tribbels an CZ’s...put just one SKS in your safe and it will start to multiply at an alarming rate!!

Odsixer Hmmmm looks good when he started i thought this looks like shiiiittt but the end result was nice looking!
Like to keep some lighter grains in mine I think I would be nervous torching her seen one on youtube the guy used red oak looks great and another post from reddit where a guy used expresso sanded it down after stain some and coated it looks great I got daek walnut big can here could save some money and just do that process with the walnut of lightening it some with fine paper before coating well see could like it way she comes and ordering all stuff ro refinish online and ordering stuff ya need from stores right now and the curb pickup is just @##%%@ed

Lol hey a couple would be ok i dunno if i would end up with 10+ like some guys here but im excited to try an sks out reading all the forums about the price people got theres for has me thinking shiiiit you over paid but that was pretty much price anywhere for laminate for online ordering all them 349-379 I choose tenda cause I heard theres are normally decent condition even though the shipping time currently maybe little longer the shipping was free as well.

Very often the SKS laminate stocks come refinished. Mine did.
Prior to putting these guns into storage, many had their stocks replaced. Mine came as shiny and new straight from the factory.

the worst is migration to the canoe that tripped over in the lake or worst even when they left home for Mike in AB ...

I know eh!? The damn things have a mind of their own. And yeah, I hear Mike even had to move lately...apparently he needed a bigger basement or something?

If you do want to make it a little edgier you might consider a vented handguard. A Magwedge rear peep sight leaf is a nice improvement too.
