A little while ago, I had contacted Timney technical support and inquired as to which trigger would fit my Zastava rifle. I had specifically mentionned I had a side safety. I was recommended the Mauser Featherweight #201. This model doesn't have a safety at all.

I ordered the trigger (not from Timney as I thought they didn't ship to Canada) and as you have guessed, it will be a no-go on my rifle. Most probably I will not be able to return the trigger too.

Dang this sucks ;-( I was hoping to be able to have it ready for hunting season!

The trigger will work but you won't have a safety.

You want/need Timney Featherweight Deluxe Rifle Trigger Mauser 98 with Safety 1-1/2 to 4 lb Black

#301

If you have dollars (at least these days), can get a Gentry or Dakota Horizontal three position swing safety - what I installed on mine - one is on a Zastava, the other is on a Husqvarna built on an FN 98 commercial action - I forget which brand safety went on which rifle - both install about the same - replace the bolt shroud on your bolt. I am old school and perhaps bone headed - both rifles got standard two stage mauser military triggers installed - dressed and honed like they can be - I prefer them - nothing to go wrong...

That's what I thought as well. I mentioned it several times that it had a side safety to timney's CS.

The store where I bought it from.confirmed they cannot.take it back. Might end up on the EE.

Good luck. I had a similar occurrence and finally got the right one but had no luck selling the "wrong" one on the ee. Don't know what it fits but apparently it's not a popular model for upgrades

I'm hoping Timney will be able to hook me up and retake the trigger from me or something. Maybe that's unrealistic...

I mean, when I make a mistake, it sucks, but I own it and deal with it. But since I didn't know which model to take, I reached out to the very people that make the trigger so this exact situation wouldn't happen ;-(

As you guys can tell, not much can be said here. I just wanted to vent a bit and share the dissappointment hehe.

Well, which model do you have exactly? If it's a Featherweight Deluxe M98 FN with side safety...I might be interested lol

I have heard from Timney...they have sent me an RMA and the trigger is on it's way to them to be replaced by a model with a side safety.

Unsure how much I'll have to pay out of my own pocket...but kudos to Timney to standing behind the advice they gave.

Not only do they make great triggers (I have one on my M96), their customer service is top notch as well.

Will keep y'all updated

If push comes to shove, you could always stone the original Zastava trigger for a very crisp/surprising let off.

The Zastava triggers really aren't that bad, just a bit coarse in their adjustments. A bit of judicious, careful stoning goes a long way towards getting an acceptable trigger.

Yup, I have to agree with you bearhunter. The factory trigger on the Zastava is quite acceptable. I was used to a Timney on my M96 and wanted to keep the same level or crispness. But it was definitely a "want" rather than a "need".

Part of the whole "pimping up my rifles" ;-)

Everything appears to have been sorted out with Timney.

Since I had written to them asking for which specific model I should purchase for my Zastava bolt rifle and since I specified that it had a side safety AND I was able to produce a mail of our exchange (including their reference number for my inquiry back then), I sent them my Featherweight m98fn (201: No safety) and got a Featherweight m98fn (model 301: side safety) upgrade.

Glad it got all sorted out. Even though it got here before hunting season, I do leave in 2 days and the installation of the trigger will have to wait until I return from moose camp.

Still, I am glad everything worked out in the end!

Had a similar experience with them. Bought a r700 Calvin elite trigger on the ee with no safety. I emailed asking if I could convert it to have a safety and if I could buy the parts. They sent out all the parts free of charge. It’s not often you get that kind of service. Especially when they are under no obligation to even do anything. Still my favourite trigger today. Maybe even over my tt diamond…
