This all matching Tula was made sometime in mid-1950 (see the arrow on the body cover), and has never been through the refurbishment process. All components appear original to the carbine. It has seen almost no use, and the non-chromed barrel is as new. It has a beautiful blue finish, with two tone body cover.

The bolt and carrier, trigger group, magazine and body cover are stamped matching. The gas piston and gas cylinder are EP matching as per original manufacture.

The birch wood stock is a two piece model (toe splice), and has a deep red shellac finish. The proof, Tula Star/1950 serial number stamps were all applied after the initial shellac. The fore end has no reinforcement pin. The bayonet channel fits the bayonet snugly, and ends in a distinct point, unlike the later stocks.

The gas chamber, rear sight base, lower stanchion, trigger group and gas piston are of early pattern.

The bolt carrier has the straight cut stripper clip guide. The bolt has the firing pin with spring. As can be seen in the photos, they have seen almost no use.

There is only a very slight amount of wear to the bluing inside the receiver, indicating minimal use.

This outstanding example came into my possession direct from the Russian shipping crate (in fact, I have the crate). A big thanks to the staff at Ellwood Epps Sporting Goods in Orillia, Ontario. Hope you enjoy the pics, and your comments are welcome!

Very nice!:)

That is the rifle I would like to get.

Would you mind disassembling the bolt, and taking some pictures of the spring loaded firing pin?

BTW, do you know which distributor Epps got it from?

you are way ahead of me .

im looking for tula 49, 50, 51, 52 and 55. izhevsk 53 and 54. ofcos in unissued condition .

I'm not holding my breath for that elusive unissued '49. A refurb with blade bayonet would be just fine and dandy.

I wouldn't mind the '51 or '52 in stamped match refurb condition in laminate stock, a black paint version with unfinished rear sight, just to have 2 examples of the refurb process.

The Izhevsk with matching original stock, yes!
