original Colt .357

Any idea on the value of an original (pre- python) colt .357? This one is equipped with the "target" hammer and adjustable rear sight. IIRC it was built in '56. No timing issues.

The white line running down the barrel is camera flash, the bluing is close to 100%

I'm guessing from the manufacturing date you've mentioned as well as the photo, that it may be a Colt Trooper or it's predecessor, the Colt .357 Mag. I had a 4" Trooper in .22. If that is the model it is, and as it appears to be in excellant condition, the Blue book 'suggested' top value is $525.00 and the predecessor $600.00.
 
Mine is identical to yours. I think it's a 1957. The bluing on the frame is looking brownish, altho the cylinder and barrel are still blue. Otherwise mine is great. Timing may be slightly out but the gun still shoots reliably. D/A is smooth (altho I prefer a Smith D/A) and the S/A is like breaking glass.

Very, very accurate gun.

I paid $275. A steal, I know.

Thanks for the info. This revolver is the first restricted I ever bought (back in 1981) and I'm the second owner. She's an accurate piece!

What Dan said except they were produced concurrently with the Python (into the mid '60s IIRC).

Same frame size, different barrel, different level of care in fitting the lock-work, though at that point they still took alot of care.

These were the first .357s which were produced on a "medium frame". They forced Smith to produce the K-frame Model 19 .357.
