just aquired and may consider selling? looking for info on these rifles. never seen one before, let alone in 8x68s. it was imported by an individual from germany in 1977.has quick detach rings on a zeiss diavari scope. any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Quite a powerful chambering, the 8x68S Not too far behind the 8mm Rem Mag.
The Mauser 66 is a nice platform, if you like the European flavor.
The Diavari is also good optics, but if it is an older model, there is better glass
available today. I would be unqualified to guess at a price, though. Dave.

I have this one in 270 great little gun. This one is from the first production run as there were eventual changes to the bolt release and safety etc on the later models. Also if you don t know already ,you can switch calibers(of the same bolt head size) by just switching barrels something a kin to the blaser rifles. The 66 was set up as a switch barrel gun and changing barrels is a breeze. You may have to look around for a while to find an accessory barrel but they are out there. If you can import a barrel from Germany it would probably be your best bet.Try E gun an online gun site from Germany.

Usual 66 depending on the condition, excellent goes from 2000$- ?
Just the rifle, no mention of scope, rings and so.
Everything is “condition”

There are 2 main advantages the Mauser 66 has over any conventional Bolt Action Rifle, consider yourself Lucky if you own one.

Firstly, because of the telescopic Action the Mauser 66 is about 4 inch shorter with the same length of Barrel then a Conventional Bolt action Rifle.

Secondly, The Mauser 66 is actually a Take down Bolt Action (only one Allen Screw needs to be loosened), splitting the Rifle almost into 2 equal lengths which results in a much shorter and not so obvious Gun Case, a definite advantage in international Travel.

Another advantage is as somebody already has mentioned is the possibility of another Barrel/Caliber as long it fits the Bolt Face.
All in all the Mauser 66 is way ahead of its time and was to expensive to manufacture, that was the reason it was discontinued I was told by Mauser Staff.

The Caliber 8*68S is somewhat comparable to the .338 Winchester Magnum but definitely better. It is an excellent Caliber for all north American Big Game and really shines at distances over 400 meters. A Set of used Reloading Dies can set you back 150 and Casings are not so cheap either.

Cheers
