Original Modern "MAUSER" Hunting Rifles?

That's an EAW double-square bridge claw mount. It's literally the finest setup you can get on an M98 and costs more than most rifles do by themselves.

The funny thing is, I don't really care about the cost. If I decided I MUST have $500 or $1000 scope mounting system I can afford to do it.

But what I see on that rifle is a beautiful old school type rifle, with a scope system that looks goofy and is too high for the best use of a scope. Obviously it works for what the Euro hunters are doing, but it's FUGLY anyway. A different scope, some different mounts and it would look real nice.

As always, different people like different things and of something works for you- go for it! :)

The top of the square bridge is pocketed, with the interface between the base and action being an insert that is screwed in from the top. Of course, this allows for the top portion of the machined in base to be removed/replaced.

You can see in this photo the top portion of the base is screwed in.

that's very clever! Thanks for the info.

That's the set-up I have on a recently acquired Winchester model 70 Super Express in 375 H&H. While I haven't shot it all that much yet, it seems to be a pretty good arrangement. I have the identical rifle in 458WM and for mounts on that, I have a set of Weaver Pivots. In an effort to keep 'things' the same, I may/WILL change over to the same mounts on the 375.

Someone on here has a real Mauser in 318 WR. I want to say it's crazy Davey or Noel (where the hell is Noel anyway?) but I just can't recall exactly.
