Origins of the AKs that are in Canada

I know valmets aren't made anymore, but they sure as hell are more cheaper in the states, could someone import one into canada from the states?

If you can talk the USG into issuing an export permit for one, you can import one - strangely enough, the USG doesn't like to issue permits for Canadians to export Valmets from the US.

Most arrived during the 1980s. The C/A AK variants I collected were obtained via Ontario Gun & Tackle (Wilke). The Yugo M70 series showed up in the late 80s and I obtained my examples from Lovett's

I had examples of 1st,2nd and third variant AK47, N.Korean Type 68, Polish PMK&PMKM in fixed and folding stocks, Bulgarian 3rd variant AK47, RPK (an Izhevsk 1974 IIRC) Milled and stamped variations of military issue Type 56 AK (fixed and folding stocks).

I divested myself of everything except a commercial Type 56S in the early 90s. Just as well as I have enough safe queens as it is.

I have been looking for a Bulgarian and North Korean for years.

Reading back through my comments I can see that I certainly did not choose my words wisely, so I think I will just quietly bow out of this thread and keep my opinions to myself.

I did not mean for you to be feeling attacked , it's just that there's many people who think that we should only own hunting guns or other crap like that, and that's the mentality that has been plaguing our sport for a long time. All these restrictions are pointless, simply because they only apply to those who choose to obey the laws, so anyone with the bad intentions and committed to breaking the law would not be affected. Gun ownership is a right we have , and they've been chipping away at it for quite some time , that's why today you find yourself asking why they would be prohibited if they're only semi-auto. Hope you understand what I was getting at from the beginning . Cheers.

Understood, sometimes a point of view gets lost in a post or thread. I agree ....I wish we did have a lot more freedom of choice and availability because as you say criminals have little regard for rules and regulations and the only people that are affected by our crazy and hard to understand firearm laws are the law abiding Firearm owners.
