I had a quick read through OSA (Operational Shooting Assoc) proposed Operational Sniper match last fall. Here's what I can vaguely remember. Should I get hold of a copy from Keith C. and Linda M up at 3W.Milcun.com then I can tweak this post. ;)

From what I recall, this set of matches is designed to challenge the serious marksman and LEO/Mil snipers. Nope, you will not be firing this match in pairs. Kinda reminds me back of my NRA High Power shooting course of fire (except no round bull, and any optics are allowed). You must shoot the same rifle throughout the competition. The focus is on the descriptor 'Operational' and not 'F' class or belly benchrest with all their heavy gadgets and gizmos that I see on the line when I'm the FPO. :eek:

Rifle Criteria:

* There is no weight limit to the rifle.
* The same rifle must be used throughout the competition.
* There are no limitations to the sight.
* The use of a muzzle brake is permitted.

Although the rifle may be tuned, adjusted or accurized, all of its functioning must be safe and must be such that it would be considered logical and practical on operations. The weight of the trigger pull must be 1 kg (2.2 lbs)

*
* 100m & 200m CCB (clean cold bore) shot, Along with 2 sighters at 300m, 400m, 500m, 600m
* 100m sitting unsupported. 1 sighter, 10 on score, Blue Body Target (BBT)
* 100m kneeling unsupported. 1 sighter, 10 on score, Blue Body Target (BBT)
* 50m standing, NO sighters, 10 on score, Blue Body Target (BBT)
* 200m prone, 1 sighter, 10 on score, follow up rapid fire, 8 sec exposure, 2 x fig. 14 on fig. 12 backboard
* 200m mover, NO sighters, 10 on score, fig 20 running man, 5 Left, 5 Right
* 300m agony snap, prone, 2 sighters, 10 on score, 3 sec exposure, 10 exposures within 10 min time
* 400m mover, prone, 2 sighters, 10 shots, 6 sec exposure walking left x 5, right x 5
* 500m snap, prone, 2 sighters, 10 shots, 1 IPSC target, 1 BBT, 10 x 5 sec exposure
* 600m deliberate, prone, 2sighters, 10 on score, BBT
* 200 - 600m walkback, 1 min to shoot 2 rds, 2 min to move back to next mound. No sighters, 10 on score, BBT

Okay folks, this is just a ROUGH course of fire taken from my memory. Did I mention that already ? :rolleyes:

The rational behind this match was to challenge operators to become totally familiar with their rig firing from different positions.

Right now we have only ONE of these matches scheduled for 06-07 Oct 2007 at the 3W.Milcun.com range. Personally, I would love to see more of this kind of match, but I'm also committed to running 4 (count 'em) Service Conditions matches in Connaught. We can get between 40 to 60 shooters for these matches.

I'll be updating once I get a course of fire from TimK.

And remember: At Milcun, WE are range control.

TTYL,
Barney

Barney,
I had asked Keith if for us NON-runners if we could do "Drive bys" and he said he'd consider it.I thought we could let YOU drive YOUR truck from the 200 to the 600 with the shooter making his 10 shots on target from the back ?????
OR back and forth across range 5 times for 10 shots????
Just a thought......................................

I don't think there is any running involved in the sniper matches. The "mover" is a moving target, not a moving shooter. I believe that someone who is mobility challenged could find/hire someone else to do his or her duty in the butts.

Bear: You are in luck... Minden area, Kinmount area Hwy 121, sound familiar ?

Visit Keith's site at 3W.Milcun.com

Cheers,
Barney

Its called a "walkback", 2minutes to walk a 100m, starting at 200m, 1 minute to fire 2 rounds. You should be able to that on crutches (figure of speech, sorry Gord :slap: )

Okay, I had some time yesterday to update the rules. This is the most current version from TimK. I'm quite excited about these matches. They are designed to test more skills of the operator than ever before. At least we are working in that direction.

cheers,
Barney

Terry: Yes rear bags are allowed. 121 rounds, eh ? I'd better smarten up and go through my typing of that course of fire. Something ain't adding up here.... AHA... this is a draft copy from TimK. I'll change things once we tweak the course of fire some more.

Terry: The profile of the BBT is kinda like the FBI's B27 (help me out here) or something like that. I cannot even recall the size of the scoring rings... I'm hoping one of the LEO's lurking here will chime in anytime.

Bbt

If by Blue Body Target, you are referring to the ones the RCMP use, the 5 ring is 8" across and 11.5 " high. The X ring is 2 1/8" across and 3" high. On the older targets, the X ring is a lighter blue than the surrounding 5 ring. On the newer ones, it's the same color as the 5 ring. The 3 ring is 2" wide. There is no 4 ring as they score them x-5-3-2.

Hey 667:

Thanks for posting the pic of the BBT. This match is designed to get away from the "Arms Race" and put the focus back on the shooter's skillset with his/her rifle. Similar to the Service Rifle matches where fancy boomsticks do not dominate the fields whatsoever.

Cheers,
Barney
