Oshawa gun club

I just looked around and couldn't find their website, so either my web chi is weak or they don't have a website. Does anyone know there rates? Thanks.

Steve David: You are making a statement that sounds like the Liberal PM want to be! State what you want and better yet tell a couple of directors at the Club!

No I'm not, I am just stating the truth. All clubs have that element, and all clubs deal with it, I did not say I let it bother me, this is just the way it is whether it makes the situation good or bad.

Thanks:cheers: looks like that's about the going rate for a first time member. Going by newshots post I guess they're not taking any new members at the moment, that blows because I just missed the sign up period for the marksmen club and they only take members a couple times a year:(

Is the Oshawa gun club a good one to join? I'm going to join a club in the spring and would like some info before doing so. I live in Brooklin, ON and have a choice between Oshawa, Port Perry, Orono or Pickering. I am also an avid rifle shooter so I would like the best of both worlds and bang for my buck. Thanks.

Dave.

I was a member at OSGC for the longest time but cancelled my membership for 2011 as I no longer shoot rifle, just my 10/22, and action pistol is all I do now. I now belong to NPRC which is geared more to pistol and action shooting meaning I can go beyond the shooting line to shoot at closer distances up to 40 yard range when safe to do so and on Fridays which is IPSC priority :D. And because membership is small it is never crowded except on Sunday which is club meet day.

Back to OSGC rifle and pistol range:
- awesome 300 yard range.
- pistol range is nice but hard to set up a crony if you need to test some loads.
- VERY VERY VERY busy come hunting season. Prepare to get to the range an hour early on the weekends to set up and grab your fave spot/ bench.
- be wary of the occassional hunter/shooter trying to dial in their new scope for hunting season and shooting them large shoulder bruising calibers. f:P:2:
- there are/were a few range nazi's since my last visit there in late 2009 early2010.
- the hill down/up to and from the range during the snowy winter season is horrible if you don't have a 4 wheel drive.
- you have idiots shooting out the wood target post to pulp.
- long waits for the ones setting up target out at 300 yards if they are walking it.
- there will be times when you're waiting more for target changes then trigger time.
- I found it best to go during the weekdays than the weekends if you want to avoid the crowds.

If you need to have 50/50 for pistol and rifle than OSGC is your choice but you will have a wait time to get you handgun permit for the club as you need to take their safety course. You can't shoot or transport your pistol right away.

If you say 80 - 90% pistol than I'd look into another club. Maybe indoors. And if you need to shoot rifle go to OSGC as a guest on their sight in days or go with someone you know that is a memeber their and just pay your day fee.

I have been trying to get in for about a year now...

They are accepting memberships for skeet only, as far as I have been able to confirm.
I always get the "call back in X months and see.."

I understand they are at capacity, it just sucks because I live right by it - and I am ready to shoot NOW.

Head down the road to Orono! We are a very friendly bunch :D

WOW! WOW! WOW! BUSY!and CROWDED!
Sorry to Hi Jack this thread but,
Your post tells me that there is a healthy interest in the shooting sports. That is good! Because the club is crowded one may have to wait for an opening or join another club. Then join another club and help to make it busy, because one needs to be a member and bring a few others to join. In Alberta I see fewer and fewer clubs and very few new clubs. I think we have to reverse that trend. I know it is a pain to wait, but I am envious of the amount of participation that your post reflects.

I agree with The ROC, current state is almost as described...

Sorry for new members to be... Question already came to discussion earlier this year on meeting, may be the solution will come too :)

Big changes expecting with trap stations improvement - two closed and under construction, few steps in rifle range reconstruction and reorganization to follow.

I like the club, and my priorities are distributed between shotgun and rifled arms almost 50.50

I love OSGC, been a member now for a while. Have actually never taken part in any skeet or trap shooting yet. BUt take FULL adavntage of the rifle and pistol ranger atleast once a week. It does get very crowded on the weekends and that is why I have decided to go throughout the week now and it is perfect maybe one or two other people there and thats it.
