Sorry if this is too off topic, but it seems like if you have a question someone here will have an answer about this kind of thing.

A friend of mine has a photo album of a guy named C.M. Griffiths it is of his time on the USS Pocahontus and in Europe during WWI. We would like to somehow connect the pictures with the soldiers families if possible. Would anyone know how to do this. I would imagine some of these pictures would mean a lot to their families.

Here is a link to the photos.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks.

Mike

Cool photos. There must be someone who would really like to have these, family or otherwise.

You've got a neat opportunity for some detective work here. I'd attack it from two angles:

- the name C.M Griffiths and the 1929 Deer Hunting picture (love it!) and its Oswego N.Y. link; and
- the USS Pocahontas.

Have a look for Griffiths living in Oswego today and contact a few. Also find a Genealogy site, look for Griffiths and ask about a C.M. Griffiths, who served on the USS Pocahontas, might have lived in the Oswego N.Y. area in 1929.

I imagine there's someone collecting info on the USS Pocahontas and maybe a Museum.

Those pictures would be valued by descendants of C.M. Griffiths and people with interest in the USS Pocahontas.

I looked and there is a Griffiths listed in Oswego. I called but got an answering machine. I will try again later.

There is also a US Army Military History Institute that I have been meaning to call but every time I think of it it is too late in the day it is the eastern time zone.

Thanks for the ideas. I will post anything I find out.

I talked to the lady in Oswego, they aren't from there but they are from New York so who knows. She is going to talk to her husband and see if there is a connection.
