Other Surplus rifles ? Cheap and good ?

Is there anything that can be done to avoid the firing pin from breaking?

Dunno. I cleaned mine as thoroughly as I could, checked for binding and burrs, but still had substantial drag marks. I was going to order a new recoil and firing pin spring, but Wolf isn't shipping to us right now.

For a sport, yes. For a full wood gun, $300 in decent shape would be a case of a seller not recognizing what they had, uncommon to be sure.

P&s has some listed for an idea of current retail.

Smellie isn't out of line on that price Claven. If one is patient and a little lucky there's still Sniders to be had cheap. I just bought a complete 3 band, needs work but it was well within the budget listed by the op.

The sniders on P&S have been there for quite awhile, but yeah they aren't a cheap gun by any stretch of the word, especially in that kind of shape. The one I bought is complete, except firing pin and spring. It will need a complete resto on it, the wood while complete is VERY dry and needs to be hydrated, the metal has pitting and the firing pin protector is missing, but it's still its ALMOST complete.

I guess if a guy is willing to take on a snider as a project that may take months or even years, then they can be bought cheap. Otherwise Claven2 is correct, finding complete sniders that are ready to fire for under $500 will be a very difficult task. You're probably going to be closer to $700 to find a complete shooter.

Don't forget to check ammunition availability and cost, some of these mentioned may be a challenge either now or later.

Hey everyone thanks for the info. Nice guns you have mentioned and I will definitely make sure I can find some ammo for the guns. Havent seen much available for the ones mentioned but will keep checking. Thanks again

SFRC, Canadaammo, marstar, tradex are good places to start looking for ammo. In most cases you don;t find surplus ammo at big box stores or the Canadian Tire.
