I find when eating squirrel there little claws poke me in the eyes,any one have the same problem!!

I also live in the Ottawa and I'm also keen to find something else to try and hunt. I've never eaten squirrel, but I'd try it. Come September anyone else know where to go, or want to try it as well, PM me. I also want to try to bag a few rabbits.

I could be wrong again, (bad habit lately) but seem to recall reading in the BC regs that red squirrels are indigenous to Canada, and have been pushed out by grey and black ones that came over from Europe, with pretty much a "blast at will" on black and grey for Vancouver Island. Check the details in your regs over there. Might be the same. You need to get the limit to make a meal though. Need a lot of salad and a big cake to round it out.

Everybody and their dog has tried Marlborough forest, it has some mixed hardwoods but there is alot of pines as well. You will probably see 10 reds to every Grey in Marlborough.

Yep. I've never seen a Grey/Black in Marlborough. Lots of red squirrels though

Vice Versa most greys are city animals and some have migrated out, they are typically more southerly animals.

I'm not in the Ottawa area but I had 5 gray squirrels aroun my bird feeder this morning. I shot 11 squirrels around my house here in the fall and thought I had thinned them out, guess not. Seems the more I shoot in the fall the more I have hang around in the winter. Lol
