Im wondering if there are any CGNr's in the Ottawa area who would be interested in a squirrel or rabbit hunt in the next two weeks; I've never really done either and am game to learn; or at the very least meet some more folks from here.

Im going to be looking into places to conduct the hunt, but if you know anywhere half ways decent, by all means! Even if anyone has advice to give on this area, it'd be appreciated.

Cheers

Mike

Squirrel is simple. Walk into a hard woods stand, sit down somewhere and wait for things to start moving.

Take the Hunter Safety course.

As far as I know, you cannot discharge within Ottawa limits, so get to know someone outside.

Perfectly legal to discharge within city limits IN CERTAIN AREAS. Check the city's website for a bylaw map that shows you where you can and cannot discharge. That being said, 99% of the land in the city is privately owned.

interesting, I always thought you could not discharge

I plan on taking the course, but would love to tag along with you guys if this happens!

Sounds like a good excuse to dust off the .22 and fill the thermos with coffee. Let me know if I need a shotgun. I'll borrow the father in-laws' .410, even though that will render the LGR useless for a while.

Im glad there are interested parties, but the trick now is somewhere to do it? Unfortunately Im staying with family close to the downtown - is there anyone who either knows a spot or would be generous enough to host a few CGNrs?

We could all bring something - turn it into a barbecue?

Just outside city limits:
-Foret Larose
-Marlborough forest

Marlborough is inside city limits. It is managed by the city. Mostly red squirrels though, I haven't seen too many black ones. There are a few rabbits/hares kicking around if you know where to look. Its mostly cedar swamp. Larose certainly looks like nicer bush, but I haven't a clue what the hunting is like.
