Ottawa M14 Clinic At Vankleek Hill GC- Whaddya think? De-brief HERE !

Mike: That cleaning rod section used to pry up the trigger guard has won me all kinds of kudos and accolades from M14 clinic attendees over and over again. That's the best use of your M14 funds in order to learn... or the best lesson ever, even with your clothes on

People keep telling me that they will take that away from the M14 clinics as their most significant lesson of the day.

John@:

Sure do what needs to be done. I don't give a krap about who downloads me, myself and I. It will save me a bunch of burning efforts.

Cheers,
Barney

Hungry - I meant to ask you at the clinic, but I forgot. What's your opinion on those plastic "recoil buffer" thingies?

Hungry here: I never worried about using that little recoil buffer ever. It's a solution for a problem that never existed, until people started using all kinds of (not recommended practice) heavier than 168 gr. bullets. Keep it simple (below 170 grains, real simple that way.)

That trick was a revelation. Up until then the best I came up with was a length of paracord with a knot in one end. Feed the other end through the trigger guard and yank.

It worked OK, but the cleaning rod dodge is vastly superior :).

Shiite... I guess I missed out on one hell of an opportunity there.....

Barney, I guess I'll have to go see you afterall....A good steak and a few beers.... That was the deal rignt ???? LOL

Hungry here: Just a steak will do. I've long stopped drinking (save money for ammo) and I can start a bar fight after half a beer these days.

To whomever(klrklr?) asked about Alu chassis stocks..

The other system, which skipped my mind was the TROY, which is rather different than SAGE.

Hey Hungry, when will you be in the Thunder Bay area? Hope I didnt miss you along your travels..

Hungry here: I wanted to do a cross country swing, but after I inspected my soon to be possessed basement (house in a new subdivision), I'm realizing that I underestimated the time needed to finish my basement. Might not be able to do the Western Canada M14 Road Trip this august....

Glad to read the success stories and 'light bulb came on' revellations. Sorry I missed the timing - getting paid to be a long ways away for a little while more.

I attended Barney's clinic at MilCun last summer, and rebroadcast the message to a few shooters in my area a month later. Based on the club's email list, we had a walk-on who owned what turned out to be a very early and very different Alan Lever import rifle, and he had no idea what to do with it. We set him straight.

So, go back to your club and volunteer a half-day to teach others about their M14 rifles. There are a lot of guys who don't know what is possible with these guns.

Hungry here: Yah, and just ensure that their dicks don't fall off too.....

Thanks for the clinic Hungry, well worth it...Kudos. I appreciate you taking th time to pass on lots of well honed expert info proven from the field. So much good and "cheap" or "welfare" type info that will save me lots of money. Already made a gas wrench from poly cutting board...awesome, and just got the great curved syringes from Lee Valley for grease application. All the best and please do another in this area next year.

M14S support in the Ottawa Area

Hello,
I missed out on the M14 clinic held at Vankleek Hill, as I had not yet received my new toy and had just returned from overseas.

I had a buddy who attended and said it was great. Any chance of another one in the area or Eastern Ontario anytime soon?

As well, Is there anyone out there that can recommend a Gun-Plumber in the Ottawa area to "pimp-out" or just plain tweek my new M14S?

Thanks.

please tell me someone video tapped the clinic ... so that we can have another updated clinic to download!

(with all the stale jokes intact :p:D:dancingbanana: )

I must have watched that first one about a dozen times since I got it... just so many good ideas!

I've offered in the other thread to meet up with anyone who didn't get a chance to attend the clinic and share what I took out of it. I'm no armorer but most of the things we covered in the clinic isn't targeted at professionals but rather at the handy enthusiast.

We can meet up at a club, garage, etc. I'm in Gatineau so location isn't really a problem for me anywhere in the Ottawa region.

I'm a member at EOHC if that makes any difference...

Just send me a PM
