Ottawa Norinco M14 clinic - any interest?

I would also be very interested in the M14 clinic,I have one but it remains unfired as I have recently moved to Orleans and haven't found a range as yet. I am a member of the East Elgin Sportsmans Asc. in SW ont.

Orleans? You are half way to EOHC in Cheney, which is just outside the limits of the city of Ottawa. Eastern Ontario Handgun Club has a shed with benchs for 100 and 200 yds, and at least 4 50m pistol bays for IPSC. There are some new shotgun layouts that I don't know much about.

The M14 clinic is planned for Sunday 25th of Aug in Smiths Falls. Tinker in the morning and test fire in the afternoon. This would be the ideal event for you to meet some of the CGN'ers, learn about your best M14 and shoot a few magazines under safe range officer control.

I don't have an M14 but I'd love to meet some of you guys and learn a bit :)

maple_leaf_eh, the 25th is a Saturday ;) Do you mean the 26th?

If I'm in town I'd love to pop by. Not sure if I'll be here or in Peterborough though.

DOOH! Sunday is the 26th of August. That's what I get for winging it. And now I've used up my one mistake for the month of July. Better be careful until the new month.

I am a new M14 owner as well. I will be coming from Muskoka any suggestions on the best way to get to Smith Falls I will coming through the Park. Also wher the Club house is in Smith Falls. Is there a range or clinic fee
Thanks

I'm off the Hawaii cruise ship and now in my parents' place in Vegas with internet. whoooohooo

This sounds like fun. Too bad I can't make it that weekend....

I just had a call from the Directors of the club,
I had a brain fart and screwed up dates.
The club house is busy on the 26th for an all day Hunting Seminar.
We have to reschedule or do it elsewhere.
Sorry, I should have known as I do the web updates.
Either 19th or 2nd or 9th?

Really sorry about this guys,

With regrets I must cancel the clinic

Barring availability of another location for the Sunday where we can talk and fix guns, I will have to cancel the clinic. If any of the participants or interested parties can offer such a place, please speak up. If we don't have a replacement venue in a week's time, we won't be seeing each other.

I am not a member of the RA Centre, and I know Connaught is stupid busy at that time. EOHC has a converted bus shelter for its "club house", and it is just too small. There is a range in Beachburg, but I'm a stranger there. Does anyone have a place at work or in their community, such as an indoor range or even a garage where the neighbours can't see in?

On the bright side, Marstar is listing sets of gas cylinder shims for $12.95 and new op rod spring guides for $38 or $40. In Hungry's words, these are two "#### loss prevention" must buys. Highly recommended because there are half your accuracy problems fixed.

There is a glimmer of hope that another club which has a very suitable clubhouse, and is closer to Ottawa than Smiths Falls may be available. I'll know before the weekend is over.

We will need a qualified Range Officer to conduct the test firing. The club might have one available, but if one of the participants is qualified, please identify yourself to me by pm.

I once offered my Barn/shop (It's about 2 hours west of Ottawa)... being private property and they are non-restricted firearms I believe shooting them isn't an issue...
But my being in Montreal the room never got finished. So it I'd still need to clean her up..
Room is 20X30 so there should be room for a good number....

Success!! The good folks at the Prescott-Grenville gun club have agreed to let us use their clubhouse Sunday 26 Aug for the Ottawa-area M14 clinic. If we have anyone who is an Ont CFO approved CFO, we can testfire our handiwork.

(I am using up a favour on this one, so attendees please PM me pronto if you are coming. I don't want to be the only guy there.)

Timings:
0830 arrivals and introductions
0900 clinic starts
1200 clinic finishes
1200 range opens for testfiring (RO depending)

Location:
exact coords to fol (the club is West of Prescott which is at the South end of Hwy 416)

Cost:
TBA, if the club requires a fee to cover their costs, but the knowledge will be freely shared.

Supplies:
I will bring my M14 handtools, and coord a small supply of "the magic ingrediants" from Marstar.

Sorry cannot make that one little to far would not be able to go til Sunday I am 5.5 hours away that would cut in to my beauty sleep haha. Have a great clinic

Figures I work one weekend in 6 and it's this weekend... It's only about an 1.5 from Montreal but I cannot make it... and damned it all if I don't have M14's out here to work on...

Sunday 26 August, 0830 hrs doors open, 0900 hrs clinic starts, 1200 hrs clinic ends, rifle range open for testfiring afterwards.

Bring you Norinco rifle, ammo, magazines, any spare parts you might have, and hand tools you normally use for stripping and assembly.

I'll bring my M14 specialty tools, some shims and a spare Marstar spring guide. For demonstration purposes, I will bring an old batch Norinco, a newly arrived Norinco, and a good Breda M1 Garand.

Pack a lunch and coffee. The clubhouse is very pleasant with parking nearby. There will be other shooters on site, but my contact will be busy elsewhere that morning.

I will be RO unless we get a club member to stand in.

(PM has my particulars and contact info)

A few fellows are dropping out, but no worries. Even if I help 1 guy it will be a successful use of my trip to Barney's M14 clinic last July.
