Hi,

I recently got my PAL and RPAL (after 8 months of classes waiting ect) and was all excited to shoot at the RA Center here in Ottawa. I could actually walk there, I live about a 25 min walk away, actually that was my first question. Is that legal, assuming I have my RPAL, the gun is registered, I have my ATT, and the gun is secure unloaded and trigger locked. Can I walk from my house to the range with it? Do I have to take my car, seems pointless when I can walk or bike there as fast or faster than I can drive.

Question 2. The RA Center seems like a total pain in the ass to gain entry into. Might be a good thing I suppose, they must be doing something right because the mandatory "First time safety class for new handgun shooters" was filled up for April, May, and Jun! Earliest open spot was July! Thats so far away that A. I dont want to wait that long, and B. I m ridiculously busy in July with summer things that I cant really commit to that 3 months in advance... I might just wait to join the RA Center in Sept when my life slows down and there is a spot in the class.

Sooooooo any other recommendations on Ottawa ranges? Something to tide me over until I actually get a membership at the RA Center? Im interested in getting this learning curve started! I hear the Stittsville Range has a sat/sun non member drop in, is this a good option? Thanks in advance.

I don't think that you will get ATT while you are not a club member. You should become a member, take safety course , visit club for 60 days (if I'm not mistaken) and shoot club guns, after that you can apply to your ATT thru the club. It takes ~1 month for CFO to issue that document and send it to the club.

I beleve that you can bike with you equipment.

To visit Stittsville you still need ATT for restricted.

So it takes time, take it easy.

Most people don't think about walking to the range. Good for you.

I got annoyed with Stittsville, and haven't been back. The RA is a good indoor facility, but I'm a fresh air kind of guy. EOSC (old EOHC) is a much better club and range. The only trouble is the facility is located a 45min drive from Ottawa.

+1 for EOSC, I am member there, once your safety course done, you get your ATT and just go there whenever you want, open 365 days per year ...well, almost ....., fun to be there..., you go, you open the gate when first and close it when the last one on the site, 7 handguns range and 1 rifle range, ongoing with more...., I am from Gatineau and it takes me 40 minutes to go there.

Stittsville when open to the public is $25/day and only for non-restricted. Membership is like $500 a year if you want to shoot restricted there.
I shoot at Smith's Falls Fish and Game....decent range and $125 per year.

Alright I ll try to take it easy as possible lol... wow smith falls is a sweet price, too bad its so far, thats like an hour drive I think. Thanks for the info.
