OU newbie question

I'm not overly knowledgeable with SxS's and OU's, I have a growing collection of savage 24's and pop some clays with a friends Ithaca now and then...so here is a rookie question, based from the guns I've been able to see at stores recently...it seems most levers to crack the action operate from left to right?

Is that kind of the industry standard?

Or can somebody recommend a shotgun where the lever operates from right to left, or both directions? I'd say my preferred budget is around 1000-1500, would prefer used to hit the budget better, but if I need to spend more to get what I want, then I'd consider that too

I'm looking for a new upland gun (20 or 28ga) and want a break action, have enough pumps and semi's.....with my 24's I can push the break lever from right to left or left to right....I have broken my right hand several times, so for me it feels much more natural to push the break lever with my thumb from right to left, lot stronger grip that way

Henry single shots go both ways
But ive never shot a ou or sxs that did not swing to the right to open.
There are side levers and under lever guns as well but not likely to be cheap

I think the blaser's and kreighoff's are out a little bit of my price range, maybe some day

I guess I'll just have to get used to it

Good old Cooey 84 single shot has an ambidextrous lever. Its however obviously not a over/under or side by side. There is an Italian shotgun that the trigger guard is operator for opening and closing the action. A lot of the Turkish companies have copied this design but they're only single shots. The Italian gun was a over/under.

I've never seen an O/U that goes any other way than left to right on opening, course I don't have any 5 figure shotguns either...lol

There are some nice used O/U's around sometimes in the EE here, but you need patience and usually more money than other used gun sites. For used stuff, check out The Gun Dealer's site. He has a constantly changing inventory...lots of stuff coming and going every day.
Also, for new...He has a sale on 20 ga Webley and Scott O/U's (( 400 off reg price)) and a ((450 off the reg price)) on the 20 ga O/U Fausti's too.
Worth a look IMHO....best of luck in your search.

I'm left handed but shoot right due to dominant eye. I use my left hand to push the lever and open the gun and while cradling with the left, use my right to extract and load. Sounds and looks awkward I'm sure. I don't even think about it now, after several years.
