Ouch! Recoil!

My mossberg 500 with the 18.5" barrel and Choate top folding stock is painful to shoot slugs through, even with a sissy pad. I have no problem with my HP9-1 or even my .375 H&H carbine but that Mossberg kicks!

Me and my buddy use to go ducking with some cooeys and toppers, both feather lights.

After fireing a few 3 inch we usualy has some nice blue shoulders. Always felt like someone barnyarding me. Weight lifting and bruised shoulders = bad :).

I love the old Break actions though.

My 870 with the copstock well thats another story, shes a ##### to shoot lol.
I just stick to the pistol grip now and let my arms take the recoil.

ya i shot a sawed off Cooey single probably about 14" slugs out of that thing were the worst for a shotgun i've ever had but i don't know what hurt more after firing that thing my shoulder or my ears

did a whole cylinder full of slugs with a streetsweeper - that steel stock has absolutely no give at all- stung for about a week-

:D

I wouldn't use 3" shells in my HP-9 without my specops stock.
No fricken way. Even then after 30 or so slugs I begin to feel rather punch drunk.

LOL - Yeah I sissied out and just ordered a Knoxx SpecOps stock from The Shooting Edge.

Two weeks ago, I fired 15 rounds of sabot 12 gauge 2 3/4" out of my 870 with a 23" rifled deer barrel and the factory recoil pad (recoil puck?). I fired 10 rounds of the Remington Core-Lokt at 1900 ft/sec and 385 grains. The other 5 were another brand of 1 1/4 ounce slugs at 1500 ft/sec.

MAN OH MAN. I have never been smacked like that. Going back to my 308 seemed like a 22.

:D

LOL!
Yah I hear yah, I got on my Mosin, and my friends 30.06 the other day and thought...hey these aren't too bad for recoil. :D

Hunting with my 6.5x55 swede this year is going to be a treat after the shotgun abuse/conditioning. :D

I have an older sxs goose gun in 12guage 3" chamber. It has dual triggers. I bought some 3" 1 5/8 ounze turkey loads and both my friend and I would shoot both barrels at once. We only shot it once at each outing which only occures maybe 1 or 2 times a year. Every time we shoot it we would both have our noses bleeding and find the release latch in the webbing of our hand with the index finger sprained. The gun needs some repairs from the recoil. The firing pin spring is compressed and doesn't retract back into the firing pin house. Luckly the barrels and stock are fine. Oh and the recoil pad is squashed and stays that way.
On that note I am hoping that I should be able to handle a 458 lott that I am looking at to buy. Not sure if the 458 lott would recoil more.

:shotgun:

Fired my first 12ga last week, I simply loved it! However 1600 FPS slugs out of a Maverick 88 18.5" barrel and ATI stock, really kicks the #### out of the shoulder. And I'm not a small guy 6' 250 lbs.

But you know what, I'll be back this week to do it all over again. I was all alone on the fireing line with that newby #### eating grin.

Can't wait to try out my Mossberg 500 with 28" vented rib and ported barrel.

I did a 150 round shotgun qualification at work with some "special" loads the instructor had picked up just for me. It sure as hell wasn't our Winchester Ranger 00 buck I was running. By the end of the quals, i was a bit stiff and had a little bit of T-shirt chafing on my shoulder, but it wasn't anything to get too bent out of shape though. Prosper's .378 however, kicks the shot outta me... I thin that one has to do with the GARGANTUAN LOP that rifle of his has.

Gimme slugs, full house 00 and 000 all day, just keep that .378 away!

I've been shooting slugs out of my SMD 8.5 inch barrelled 870 with pistol grip. pushing forward with the left hand and pulling back with the right. it spreads the recoil between both arms and feels quite mild. its feels milder than the recoil with the full stocked 8.5 incher shown in my avatar - which is not that bad. but maybe like some have said I've come to enjoy recoil:eek:??
