Our Canadian Birthday

Congratulations. I am glad I did the same move, although I wish my parents had done it on my behalf one generation before. The teething pains were many, but my offspring is better of because I came here - and that's all that matters to me.

I emigrated 17 years ago and have never looked back (or even visited the UK since I moved here).
I still believe that if you work hard you can get ahead in this great country which is certainly not the case in the UK.

Were your suitcases that heavy because they were chrome lined? Lol . I’ve been to your shop several times and you run a great business John! Keep up the good work!

A thank you to you and your hard work .......I know what it is like .... cause my dad did the same when he left Italy but on a way smaller scale ...... and his hard work did pay off
I thank you and your kind workers for all that they have done
And a thank you to your wife
It was nice to me you fine folks at wolverine days
You will always have my business
Cheers

thanks for sharing, i came here in 1990. How about the story from that point on, to the shop that we know today?

already a customer of your shop.

My wife and I have just returned home after a great supper out, I have lit the wood stove and I am sitting back sipping a scotch, Pat is relaxing on the couch, my dog Sammy is curled upbeside me, the perfect end to great day. I have just read through all the posts here and I am humbled, thank you all for your comments and best wishes. Life is good. :)

We are all immigrants. We are all lucky to live in this great country, but still whine and ##### for no real good reason.

It doesn't get any better than that, unless I win the 33 million tonight in the lottery! I,m sipping one myself reading all these posts. Congrats!

Thank you Sir for sharing your birthday with us.
And for the time and work you and your family have invested in this country.

You left a decent country to come here and farm, which is a feast or famine way to live. And even tho it did not turn out as planed, you tell us how happy you are you came.

What a change from those that plan to invest nothing and whine I
owe them a bigger hand out.
What a change from the crap the media pounds us with every day.

1982 was a while ago but on your birthday I can say Welcome to Canada

John, I love to hear the immigrant stories from those that did it on their own, worked hard, and succeeded. A bit late, but "Welcome!"

My father's side goes way back, to the 1500's, and my mother's to the 1700's, so guess I'm just a "Canadian", no story of earning the privilege!

Respect to you Sir. I remember that day well. November 20, 2005.It was a cold cold day. Came here with 2 suitcases and a dog. Those first years were tough. I started out sweeping floors on the grave yard shift. Today I have a beautiful family, a 560 acre farm, and I supervise the best crew of guys in western Canada during my day job. Got my citizenship a couple of months ago, and my passport arrived in the mailbox today. So I guess we both have something to celebrate!
