If I remember correctly, the design didn't allow use of AR pistol mags despite Hical offering SKS with modified receivers at the time which impacted sales quite a bit. It looked great, felt great but in my opinion didn't sell the way they hoped as they've stopped producing and selling them now.
If Hical had done what NS is doing now, it may have been a different story.
