Hi All......

Thinking of taking a gunsmithing course......

Where can one get training that produces a certified course, if you pass of course.....How long would it take and where in earth would one go to get the training.

Mechanically and engineering wise I'm no greenhorn but as in my Cider Making course I'm taking in February I am doing a course with, in this case, internationally recognised certification.

Thanks in advance for answers or info....

1) Read the 'Want to be a gunsmith' sticky.
2) There are no entry level jobs anywhere.
3) There are real recognized, 2 year, Community College courses, Stateside. Colorado School of Trades, in Denver, for one. No W's. schooloftrades.edu/about
Biggest downside is that you cannot, I say again, cannot work in any way, shape or form while attending a school, Stateside, as a non-immigrating alien. (Nor can you personally possess any firearms.) Means you must have the money to live on for 2 years.
4) Do not even consider the correspondent courses. Not only are they completely unrecognized, you must have an example of whatever firearm the lesson is about and their primary interest is selling videos.
 
Trinidad State Junior College south of Denver offer the most comprehensive gunsmithing course... it was a 2 year program when I did it in 1966-67. I could not work while I was there. Firearms and being a non resident were no problem at all in 1967. Different today. It will get you started but the work you do in 10 years after you graduate will also involve a lot of learning. Very expensive today...
 
pcdi.ca is out of oakville and the run a gunsmithing course was just looking at it myself the last few days a fellow employee is taking it now says it a really good course they send you basic smithing tools as well not sure of the cost for the course.
