I just thought I would post these pics for you guys...medium cold day, about -10c and howling wind where these were shot. I just took a friend out shooting for the first time and had my rig on for the sole purpose of keeping mags handy and having somewhere to drop empty mags and brass - I started out with a different gun and was throwing the brass in my open pocket but then realized I could put it in the dump pouch on the front of my rig, which is set up entirely for use with this gun otherwise.
So I threw it on and after a while switched to this gun anyway.
Actually if the other guy hadn't been freezing to death (I was toasty in my fleece/hardshell and could have stayed out there all day) there would have been a lot more pics. We also did some shotgunning, some iron sight M14 work at about 100m, and some slightly longer range stuff with my heavy barrel Savage (also in .308) from the prone position, which was too much for my friend! Although he is a very experienced camper, hiker, and climber he just wasn't prepared for the cold that day.
Anyway here's a couple of pics of unshaven me in my tacticlol assault setup! Although the pants I am wearing are actually my ski pants - they are way too loose at the ankles to be using for zombie fighting...I would get tripped up on the piles of corpses I would leave, I think.
Note that although I had the stock folded in the first pic I don't actually shoot it like that!
Most of what's on the rig is Tactical Tailor, although the pistol mag pouches are the magnetic ones from Tadgear, and the dump pouch is maxpedition rolypoly, of course. Rig is TT Mav 2-piece with harness. It's surprising just how comfortable this setup is, although obviously I look completely out of my mind to most people!
Anyway the folder is a DIY job based on Laz's method (see the sticky!) and it worked well. The extra weight at the back is sort of nice - m14s tend to be a bit nose-heavy but this one isn't really anymore! It balances pretty much at the mag.
In conclusion: five round mags are annoying but paying for the amount of ammo I would go through with 20 rounders would be pretty annoying too!
