I have been invited by family members to go along on a Moose hunt in Newfoundland this year. I have been out of the hunting game for a long time, and am planning on getting back into it some time soon, though until the invite, was not thinking too seriously about if for this year. I have my PAL, but not my hunter's safety course (I live in Ontario). What I want to know is what I need to do to be legal to hunt with my relatives in Newfoundland. Would I need my outdoors card from here, or?

Edit: Gah - I just found something online - is it true that I must have a licensed guide with me to hunt big game, with no exceptions?

Non-resident hunters must possess a valid non-resident hunting licence. They must also possess proof or verification of having met their own jurisdiction’s hunter education requirements and must present this information immediately upon request of a Conservation Officer. Non-resident big game hunters are required to be accompanied by licensed guides. Guides are supplied by licensed outfitters.
Without a guide as a non-resident you must be hunting with a direct relative.

Direct relative:a father, mother, grandparent, sister,
brother, son, daughter, grand-child or in-law who is a resident
of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador

Do you have a reference for the above quote as I do not see this in the regs other than for fishing scheduled waters........

Nope, still don't see where you can hunt with a direct relative as a non-resident. Can you cut and paste it? Sorry, I'm getting old............

That is because you can't, licence has to come from an outfitter. So unless an outfitter will issue a licence and a direct relative is a guide then you can't legally hunt.

I think it should be non-resident aliens that need guides. Non-residents should be alloted a limited number of tags to apply for and be allowed to hunt without using an outfitter or guide.
