Both are interesting. The difference between early and late g98 is the finger groove and bolt disassembly
Here is the Spandau 1917 Album. Spandau stopped making g98 receivers in 1917 and made very few that year. All matching with a spandau receiver (i think they also assembled with receivers from other suppliers). Bought in local Ad about 10 years ago.

here is the Amberg 1903, low serial, with very nice bavarian firing proof. Production started in 1902 with very few made in 1902 i think. The handguard is not original but the rest is all matching. Hard to find an early g98 in such condition. I never tried to flip the stock disc to see it it was regiment marked not to damage it
