Out of the Trenches! Very Interesting Imperial German Kar98az

I've shot it, but the bore has seen some use in it's day so it's not much more than a plinker.

It also has a unit mark for a Bavarian Artillerie zu Füß regiment.
 
Another post made me resurrect this one. Wanted to intervene few months ago as your Erfurt is not too far from mine:

With a 1917 spandau and a 1903 Amberg

Sure.

Both are interesting. The difference between early and late g98 is the finger groove and bolt disassembly

Here is the Spandau 1917 Album. Spandau stopped making g98 receivers in 1917 and made very few that year. All matching with a spandau receiver (i think they also assembled with receivers from other suppliers). Bought in local Ad about 10 years ago.

here is the Amberg 1903, low serial, with very nice bavarian firing proof. Production started in 1902 with very few made in 1902 i think. The handguard is not original but the rest is all matching. Hard to find an early g98 in such condition. I never tried to flip the stock disc to see it it was regiment marked not to damage it

Wow! Those are fantastic! The 1917 Spandau sure has that "been there done that" look and that 1903 Amberg is beautiful! Thanks for the pictures! Have you shot them?
 
Very interesting post, I recently purchased a 1914 Kar98AZ and you answered a lot of my questions with this post. Unfortunately when the rifle arrived Canada Post had broken the original stock in half at the recoil lug. Currently been sitting at my local gunsmith shop for two months hoping they can fix it :(

Literally a collectors worst nightmare - very sorry to hear. When it’s all fixed up please post some pictures!
 
What is the story on ( https://ibb.co/album/GFxtbw ), as it appears that it was not converted to the S munition, based on the sight picture.

The book for details on German rifles that I like is;

“German Military Rifles and Machine Pistols 1871 – 1945”, By Hans Dieter Gotz. Translated by Dr. Edward Force, CCSU. Includes information on assault rifles and Sten copies.
