I started shooting hand guns 6 months or so ago and I started with (other than my 22's) a sd9ve and didn't mind it until I held a Girsan MC-28 9mm
and the trigger, the feel of the gun and just everything about it made me trade the sd9ve on the Girsan, both were brand new and the Girsan is/was the
better gun between these two. Then our local gun store brought in a used Smith and Wesson 14-2 38 special and something told me to check it out, so I now own
the S&W 38 special and I'm thinking I will be keeping this one for a long time. It's in very nice shape for a gun from the 60's,

I know it's not the same as having the semi auto's but something about this gun is telling me I made a very smart choice.

Great choice!

Back in the day, every self-respecting handgun collection had a S&W Model 14 [or "K38"] and a Model 17 [or "K22"] in it.

My K-38 shot so well out of the Ransom Rest, I sold my full house PPC gun and just shot it in my last years shooting PPC.

It also shot as well or better than my Python so that one went too, but now I wish I had kept it for the resale value!

I bought a 14-3 with 8-3/8” barrel from a great guy here and it appears to only have been shot from the factory. It is a tack driver with Hornady 148 grn HBWC over 2.8 grains of Bullseye or 3 grains of Win231. I don’t shoot any plated or jacketed just lead in it.

Bought a SMITH 14- Target Master from a CGN member last year and this thing is a delight to shoot it came with Bomar sites almost the same Bullseye load as Reeferman's.. the quality in these pistols will not be seen as frequently in the future

"Something" is absolutely spot on and giving you very good advice :). I have a 14-3 and it is superb. I don't have a "proper" trigger guage but the inexpensive digital pull scale I have indicates that the DA trigger pull is around 8 lbs. and it's smooooooth. I've read that the Model 14's were hand-tuned at the factory and I have no reason to doubt this. I also have a Model 19 (basically the same gun but in .357 Mag) and despite having done extensive internal polishing, installing trigger and hammer shims and a lighter mainspring, the trigger, although quite acceptable, isn't as nice as the 14. You have a real keeper there.

My most fun gun is my 19-2 with a trigger job 4 in, the best long range was 14 master piece with 6 and 8 inch barrels, but with old eyes, I shoot the 4 inch just as good now.
Don't know how many semi autos I have, but use more 38sp than 9mm or 45acp.

Yah, they don't make em like they use too. I have an old model 10 in very good condition and it is one of my favourite guns. The timing is like clock work and it has a deep bluing that you don't see on modern guns.

I had my 38 out to the range on both Sat and Sunday and yup it's a much better shot than I am, I used American Eagle ammo and that gun hit
right where it was aiming. I was using a gun rest to check out how good it was and it was awesome. Even with me holding it with out the rest it made
me look like a decent shooter.

I also had my S&W 617 out and I came to the same conclusion as the 38, the gun makes me look better than I am. The 617 was tried with several different brands of ammo
and the CCI's were the guns favorite but being a revolver it spat out everything and asked for more.

These are my most fun guns as well the 38 is especially accurate with wad cutters
