Outboards for lake boats: electric or gas?

I use a 4hp Honda four stroke (no oil to mix with gas). Get the twin version, mine in an older single cylinder and it's a rough running little turd. The new one is quiet, and smooth.
I can't complain otherwise on the little motor, runs forever on it's small gas tank. I have an evinrude electric as well.
The little four will almost plane my 12 foot boat. No way on my 14.

If you do buy a gas one that needs the oil mixed... Buy a large syringe and use it to get the mixture right...

For example, my outboard needs a 50 to 1 mix... So, when I mix up 10 liters of gas, I can use the syringe to measure 50ml of oil. Recall, that 1cc of liquid is also 1ml... So, a 50 cc syringe lets me add 50ml of oil, no mistakes, no smoking engine etc...

Cheers
Jay

I'll add my two cents...

1980's vintage Evinrude or Johnson 4 hp two cylinder two stroke internal gas tank. Best little motor ever made PERIOD! I have yet to see any other small two cylinder outboards in that class size. Single cylinder motors vibrate a heck of a lot and do not compare.

All 4 strokes have to be put on one specicifc side or oil will go into the cylinder(s) and it will not start unless you remove the plug and clean the oil off it.

Other than weight that's one of the other problems with a four stroke. As far as the 4 horse Johnson goes I used to think they were the greatest too till I got a 7.5 Merc.
