Which Crazy glue gel or regular (liquid)?

Liquid ! I also did fixed some black plastic and bakelite grips the same way. I filed wood/plastic with a file to make very fine dust, then used a piece of tape where parts was missing to support the dust. Put a fairly good amount of dust where part is missing ,then you just pour the crazy glue on the dust stump. It goes straight inside the dust instantly and alsmost dries instantly to. once all is solid you just have to gently work and shape it. ( use a safety mask ! The dust of crazy glue stink and is probably armful)

In the case of black plastic or bakelite grips I fixed it was impossible to tell they was broken with part missing.

If the chip fits good you should be able to glue it on no problem with some yellow carpenter's glue and looking at the location it should be easy to clamp...I wouldn't worry about cleaning it because it should be fresh where it separated and like buddy said glue it up push the chip into place, wipe off the squeeze out and then clamp it!
Any other squeeze out should be easy to clean later..

if you cant find the chip you can always make the hole more even and stain a new piece of wood and fit and glue it to the hole.
