Over Under ..... problem's on cheaper guns?

Okay. I shoot trap. Lots of it. This year alone I put 2225 shells just through my Turkish budget gun. I also hunt 9 months out of the year and except for big game, I use the same gun. I have seen lots and lots of b guns fail worth 10 times what mine is. I have seen many cheap guns fail too. (Pumps for some reason always seem to survive). Since April I have spent more time waiting for one guy or another owning a berreta cursing his shell lifter or some old fart with a browning claiming his barrel selector broke than some "bubba" with a Mossberg getting weak strikes.


B guns are pretty, b guns ARE worth the money. But don't talk down to people who shoot budget guns. Mine puts hundreds of game animals in the fridge every year and downs thousands of clays. And I only shoot clays when the hunting season is closed btw.

Don't be a snob.

This is why I was told if I'm going to buy a browning or beretta that I should buy a sporting model. A field or hunting model with have more issues than a sporting model of you are using it for clays in large amounts.

I am in no way being a snob. What I am is a seasoned gun owner who has been down the budget gun road many years ago and learned some hard lessons from it. Yesterdays budget guns scream quality over todays plethora of budget firearms. You don't have to remortgage your home to buy a quality gun but you are in a far better situation with reliability over an extended period with at least a quality gun compared with a budget gun. I have over 50,000 rounds through a 101 I bought in 91. It was not an overly expensive gun by any means at the time. About the price of 3 - 11-87's. I can tell you from experience though that had I stuck to an 11-87 after 50,000 rounds and 26 hunting seasons given my experience with the couple 1100's and 2 11-87's I have owned I'd have been on the third 11-87 by now or hadcto rebuild rhe original one a few tmes over. To date the 101 has never broken, required repairs or service and has never had a ftf or fte. This will be my 27th waterfowl season with it and we are not talking about a 10-15K gun? At the price I paid for it I would call it a quality budget gun. It has cost me $76.92/yr to shoot it.

I agree that expensive guns are better, what gets me is people treating "budget" gun shooters like they are fools or "bubba's". OF COURSE a $1000 trap gun is a bad idea. Why oh why people need an o/u to shoot singles is beyond me when $1000 buys you top of the market pump gun with trap config like a wingmaster trap or bps trap. Anyhoo, ya I shouldn't have been a ####.

I made the Bubba comment in reference to the same two or three shooters I see week in and week out delaying the squad with their barely functioning guns and though we wait patiently for them without so much as a negative word and even offer up assistance they still feel the need when not shooting to put a negative spin on those of us with a better quality firearm not disrupting a squad woth breakdown after breakdown. I have been that guy holding up squads years back with sub-par for the job guns and I prefer to not be that fellow again if possible. Its not only disruptive to others shooting focus but also takes away from my own ability to focus on shooting. I don't want in the back of my mind constantly wondering if my gun will make the round?!
