Over/Under that fits like a Semi-auto?

Had the chance to shoot an A400 Xcel with kick off and a 30 inch barrel this weekend. In short the gun fit me like a glove and I ended up buying it.

Now I prefer shooting my Guerini Magnus Sporting typically but this A400 was just amazing to me, and I shoot the Guerini fairly well but not as good as thus A400.

I'm now tempted to look at Beretta Over/Unders and wondering if any of you have found out early that fits like a semi-auto, if that statement makes sense.

The Xcel has caster and drop inserts for adjust-ability. So it's an adjustable stock. I don't believe there is a O/U that does this other than the 828U...

The Xcel is a very nice gun. I think they have plans to come out with the "black" version too. If it's not out already. The blue doesn't always appeal to everybody, but besides that the gun is great.

I own a SV10 Prevail Sporting that have used for 3 months & really liked it. but with my arthritis getting my cheek on the stock was a problem so I borrowed a Browning Cynrgy unsingle high rib & shot it well. this past weekend at a shoot a guy I know who buys & sells used guns had a Beretta A400 Excel multigun semi auto he let me use it for some practice shots. 5 minutes later I handed him a cheque-love this gun!

A good start would be to take the measurements of the A400 and compare them to your o/u. It may be possible to have the stock altered so they are more alike. You might consider an adjustable comb so to the stock can be adjusted to similar dimensions.

However, it may not be just the dimensions that make the guns handle differently. Balance and weight are also a factor.

FWIW, I haven't found consistency between Beretta o/us in their stock dimensions. Some fit me well others not so much.

I would love to have my Guerini fitted to me properly but have not found anyone in southern Ontario that does this sort of work. Not sure what the cost for fitting would be from start to finish but i suspect it would be worth it.

I've heard there is a shop in King City north of Vaughn but have not tracked them down just yet nor do I know if they are the right spot to go...would welcome any advice in this area.

The shop is Precision Arms owned and operated by Steve Milton. He does good work but has what I understand to be a very long backlog of a year or more.

Because it is only the wood you need changed you might be able to take dimensions from the A400 and have a competent wood work make the changes and refinish the stock.

I think I'm in a similar situation. I've been shooting a bettensoli x9 sporting all year, I really like the gun but I'm struggling to keep my scores up to where they usually are with my a400 xplor. I am considering getting an adjustable butt plate installed and see if it helps.

It's not like semi autos fit different than O/U shotguns, it's just a matter of each particular make and model fitting different, and swinging different. I have owned several semi autos, and several O/U guns, and I can shoot either action well if the particular gun fits me, or poorly if they don't. Depending on how the guns fit differently, fitting the one that doesn't fit as well may be a smaller, relatively inexpensive job, or it might be a bigger job that will cost more. All of my target guns have adjustable combs , which make it much easier to fine tune the fit, but the solution may be as simple as changing the recoil pad, or adding an adjustable butt plate. Even adding an adjustable comb is not that expensive for most O/U shotguns.

There is a father and son doing stock work in the Niagara Falls area. I can't find the contact information, but will see if I can get it later today. They make beautiful stocks, but I suspect that they will be able to make your gun fit as well as possible.

An auto and an o/u are not the same not even close really.

Besides fit...

You are likely referencing the barrel better on the auto.

so, just out of curiosity i compared the two shotguns that I shoot clays with. the o/u has a lop of about 14 3/4" and a drop at heel of 2 1/4" the semi has a lop of 14 1/4" and dah of 2 3/4". Ive never really compared or measured shoguns before so I may be off a bit on the tape. Would those numbers be enough to make me have troubles with the O/U? and likewise is there enough difference to warrant making changes to the stock?

Your shooting results should answer that question for you. Do you shoot the semi better ?

Two shotguns with same length of pull and drop at heel can still fit very differently even assuming neutral cast on both. Drop at comb, thickness/shape of comb, pitch of stock - are also going to affect where it points.

So let me understand. You picked up a Beretta semi, you loved it. You wish your Guerini O/U felt the same.
However, you're looking to buy a Beretta O/U, in the hopes that it fits like the semi.

Whatever path you choose, get a gun with adjustable comb and but plate.

If the stock doesn't have one, then there's two people here in the Niagara region (not including the Stemski names) who can install one.

I guess if I was shooting a semi better than my o/u, I'd probably stick to the semi. ;)

One of the guys at my club got the Xcel Multitarget. I haven't shot it, but it offers a lot more adjustability over the blue A400 Xcel. And it's much better looking in my opinion. Kinda pricey though.
