Over under VS double barrel

I haven't shot registered birds for years, so when I shoot skeet or trap it is almost always with my bird guns which for the most part are SXS guns.
I simply prefer them.....

I've never knocked birds down as well as I did this fall which was my first season using a SxS. Given a choice that would be my preference of shotgun but there is some wisdom to being good with multiple platforms.

I find everyone shoots one platform better than the other....... unfortunately for me, I prefer the look of a SXS over an O/U, but I shoot O/U much better......

I had the privilege of handling a very nice browning bss sporter sxs this past weekend in 20 gauge and it seemed to fit perfectly when pretend snap shooting a street light from a room in my basement (lol) and is very tempting.... but so is a Citori superlight featherweight....

Embarrassed to admit it was the first time I ever spent any real time handling an English style stock outside of a gun store, and I was very impressed....
 
Glad to see the reference to narrow vs wide sighting plane. I wish the quote of single vs double sighting plane would die or better yet didn't exist.

I love shotguns wether SxS, O/U, semi or pump. If they are well built and fit me. When it come to SxS vs O/U you have to compare apples to apples. Field gun to field gun. Target to target. If you take a well balanced , long barrelled target O/U against an equal SxS ( pigeon or fouling piece) you will be surprised how similar they are.

I believe and I think it has been proven over time that you can be more precise with the narrower sighting plane of an O/U than with the wider of the SxS. Most all competition is shot with an O/U, even driven shooting in the UK has shifted to them.

Now in a grouse or woodcock cover. Give me a light weight (6-6 1/2 lbs) 28 inch, straight grip,SxS that fits and I will be a very happy man.
