overall best handgun(pistol)

just wondering what you guys think is the best overall handgun. since my experience is limited just want to see what some of you guys think. so far i love my glock 22.

Best handgun?
1) at what price $ point $?
2) what is the intended use?

A SIG 210 is probably as nice as it gets when talking about accuracy, fit and finish... But at well over $2000 for a used one, it wouldn't be my first choice as a combat pistol!

If there could be only one pistol, it would probably be a Glock.

Best "overall" - I'd have to say Glock.

And I wouldn't ;)

The question as asked can't be answered.

The best pistol for a person can only be determined by that person. We can sort out unreliable/dangerous/weak designs, but past that...

Glock grips angles don't work for me, and I like other pistols enough that I don't feel like or need to retrain to shoot a pistol that does nothing for me. Not saying Glocks aren't good pistols, of course they are, not the best for me though.

1911's are the best for me, at the moment, for the shooting I do and the satisfaction they give me.

If you've got $50/year to spend on ammo, the best pistol is a .22.

If you want to go bear hunting...

CCW...

Bullseye shooting...

IPSC....

etc etc....

Hold as many as you can, try and shoot as many as you can. Then buy one, and buy more later as required :D

Right now, the best pistol for me is a CZ-52. I cannot afford to shoot anything else, and have several crates of ammo in my room. :D

The best pistol for you this year may not be the best pistol for you next year.

Whatever you get, your skills and knowledge will change. You will want something else in a while.

Pick a pistol the same way you would pick a bicycle. I rode a very expensive bike and a very cheap bike. I discovered that the cheap bike fought me, made riding work. The very expensive bike helped me. Made riding fun.

So, I began by riding, going up a price point, riding, going up a price point, until I got to a bike that helped me and made riding fun. It was not a very expensive bike. I could have spent three or four times more.

Why don't you try shooting a wide variety of pistols. Decide which ones make shooting work and which ones make shooting fun. And you have to decide on the calibre. F'rinstance, right now, I think .40 S&W makes shooting into work, not fun.

I'm with Walt on this.. The question is just dumb....

I think my Mk 2 is great for just plinking the Mark 3 is good for the wife and 3 year old....

I like my Gold Cup for just general shooting... But I have a Coonan B that I love... My G20 and G33 have places as well...

And I like my wheel guns for some things...

you'll see the light on revolvers after 30 years of bending over to pick up brass- it'll get you in the small of the back-

for IPSC my Smith 1911 get the vote, for pure fun plinking , my ruger MKIII with 5 and a half inch heavy barrel. For the power my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter, for the fun of it, and to compete slowly in IPSC my PC 625. But It always depend on what move you are, but being stock with one choice, I will go the Skelton way, S&W 27 in .357MAG with 5 inches barrel. Do I shoot well shooting all these thing, no . not so, But I have Fun, enjoyed it a lot, and that's the name of the game.

One more, being able to carry(CCW), my 625-3 with 3 inches barrel will get my vote, fast to present, fast to reload , and Hollow point just look plain nasty in these revolvers hole...

The best? Maybe whatever you own at the moment. Probably what the other guys shooting. Certainly whatever you're going to buy next, and next, and next!

If you owned the very best on the first time round, life would be very boring, after a week or two.

funny how nobody's even mentioned a revolver- well i'm going to- first starting out, a gp100, or if you want something bigger, the redhawk in 44 mag-you can tailor your loads from mild to wild, which is something you can do to only a limited degree with any automatic- if you HAVE to go automatic,go 1911 - one more thing- you don't have to POLICE YOUR BRASS with a revolver

+1
My Redhawk in .44 doesn't jam...ever.
You can load up a bunch of full pop magnum loads and go blasting away or whip up a batch that you can fire all day long, and not feel like you have to drive half way home with you knee on the steering wheel just to give your hands/wrists/forearms a rest.
Not chasing around flying brass is a definate plus as well.

Another interesting discussion guys.
Personally I observe how shooters operate their firearms in a competitive shooting match, this includes ipsc style, bullseye, cowboy action etc..
After 35 years of watching other shooters I have come to a certain group of conclusions.
In action pistol shooting the best you can get in a semi-auto is the the 45 ACP, 1911 Government Model operating system. Without doubt it is singularly the most reliable, accurate and hard hitting handgun for action shooting.
For Cowboy action, the best you can get is the Ruger Single Action series...be it the Blackhawks or the Vacqueros. They are tough, accurate and very reliable, and if in practiced hands incredibly fast.
For bullseye, NRA 1500 match shooting, there are three divisions...22 rimfire, centerfire and 45. I am divided on the 22 rimfire division...the top handgun for this goes to either the High Standard match guns or the S&W Model 41. The centerfire division is lead by one...the S&W Model 52 38 Spl. semi auto. The 45 division has only one top gun...Colt Government Match grade Semi-auto.
Well, theres my 35 cents worth.
Cheers

+1 For the GP100, accurate, reliable, indestructable really.
