In general, how many .40S&W rounds can you fire consecutively before a semi auto pistol barrel gets overheated? Can you damage the barrel shooting it too hot?
I have a Glock 22C and from experience, I can tell you that overheating seems not to be a concern, I have put 150+ in one quick session, rapid fire (save reloading the magazines, I have 5), and up to 400 rounds through it in one afternoon a week ago, and never had a problem. It depends on what you're shooting, manufacturer, ammo type (reloads could play a factor in that). If I could have a full auto, I would b able to gauge that better. I can only say that you can damage the barrel if you use it when it's too hot, but that's kind of hard to do, unless you have a lot of magazines and shoot fast so the barrel cannot cool off. BTW, don't forget that heat transfers to the rest of the gun's components, some conduct it better, some not, and ambient temeperature and humidity could play a role there too. Don't worry about overheating too much unless you wanna go overboard with loads of ammo, tons of magazines and quick fire. Example, a MG34 would overheat after 250 rounds full auto (or so I heard) and a barrel change would be needed. We don't have to worry about that in Canada
Your chances of damaging the barrel before you burnt yourself are slim to nil. Short of deliberately trying to damage the gun, it will take the abuse you throw at it and ask for more.
