Overkill Optics

Yo guys, I recently picked up a PCC, and wanna install an LPVO on it just because it looks cool(I am a target shooter, nothing more). And my friends say it is a overkill, any comments?

LPVO or red dot are both used commonly for close target work and close range shooting. With the ability in an LPVO to go further. Do your friends also only use red dots on Rimfire ?

I see no issue with this and would likely do the same. I prefer an optic with an etched reticle over something battery powered.

Why do they think it’s overkill ?

That is an excellent point, I also think the same. But the problem is, besides driving like 6 hrs to Crown Land up north(I live in the middle of GTA) maybe twice a year, 99% of my time is in a 25m indoor range.

I mean people use 36x and 45x for Rimfire Benchrest at 50 yards for comparison. Most LPVO are 6x and maybe 8 with the odd 10x.

You’re totally fine! The move magnification will after allow you to see your hits better and adjust if you need too. While over magnification can be an issue I don’t think an LPVO is going to give you any problems. I mean people run red dots with 3x magnification so what’s the difference right ? You just have variable magnification which lends itself to being handier.

LPVOs are the perfect optic for a PCC. 1x for close range stuff, and a bit of magnification for longer shots if they're there. At the top of the magnification range of a 1-6 or you're at about the limit of your PCC's effective range anyways. A throw lever will let you swap between your magnification range nice and quick, if that matters to you at all.

The only PCC I run a red dot on is specifically for steel challenge, where everything is relatively short range and target acquisition time is more important than accuracy. My other PCC and competition guns all have LPVOs on them.

Edit: Holy crap, lol new drinking game- take a shot every time I say "range" in this thread.

I threw around 300 rds yesterday, with LPVO and red dot. LPVOs work much better since I am terrible nearsighted, which makes 25 rd target all jammed up so badly on my eye LOL.
