I have yet to do my Badge course (coming soon) and I have a question about belt sizing. The DAA site says about 6" for overlap, the internet states a variety of measurements for overlap. So I thought I would pose the question to those who are more in the know: what would you say is a good overlap--and how much is too little. (btw I am aware of the plethora of "that's what she said" jokes out there right now). Nonetheless, your opinions would be appreciated.

I say 4 inches at least. Remember we shoot in Rain/Snow/Sunshine and once you tuck in all the extra clothing that extra inch or two matters.

thanks for the input guys. I went with two sizes over my waist, but it still seems snug(at about 3-4")...however, i guess i should definitely consider belt shrinkage over time :/

This interests me...

Does anyone have an opinion on how much overlap is too much? I guess it kind of depends on how big you are to begin with? Someone with a 34 inch waist probably doesn't need as much extra space to fit a sweater and jacket as say, someone with a 46" waist?

From what I've been able to figure out, it's from shooting in the rain and not storing the belt properly, either that or it's the belt elves, one of the two.

Seriously though, when I got my first belt I got the same size as my pants, they already had the overlap figured into them. But maybe something has changed?

Lol, sorry I meant maybe new belts are not designed the same way as they used to be with a 40 belt actually being a 46 and so on

From what I've seen most of the belt manufacturers still recommend to order your pants size and the overlap is built in so I don't know what the confusion is about.

I bought a 34 inch belt to go with my 32 inch waist. There's too much overlap and not enough room to mount my mag pouches (because in Canada we need too many). It would probably be okay if I mounted things a bit differently, but bigger would have been a huge mistake.

We have most of the DAA belt sizes in stock. Here is information on sizing to help you decide what you need:

Other features include:

Top quality material and workmanship
Industrial strength Velcro of the highest standard
Both inner and outer belt have their size clearly tagged
Competition width 1.5”, to fit with all shooting gear used
Overlap length is already calculated in – so if you are a size 36” pant – you order a size 36” belt
Sizes available from 32” – 50”
Smaller sizes (32”-34”) have an 18cm (7”) overlap section, while larger belts (36” and up) have a 24cm (9.5”) overlap section. This is to ensure the smaller size users have enough space on their belts for all their magazines pouches.
An attractive and functional safety loop is included with every belt, carrying an embroidered “AA” logo

How to select the correct belt size:
Most pant manufacturers today "cheat" with their marked size. A size 36" pant should measure around the waist 91.5cm but most measure more. So before you order your DAA belt, take a tape measure and measure around your waist. Then check the chart of belt lengths shown above and select a belt which offers you about 18-25cm overlap. (longer than your measured waist size)

For example:
If you measure around your waist 86cm, you should choose a belt which is about 104-110cm Overall length, which would mean a DAA belt size 34". If you measure around your waist 98cm, you should choose a belt which is about 115-123cm Overall length, which would mean a DAA belt size 36 or 38"(38" would be the safer bet, a little long is always better than a little short).

I giggle when I see people without their belt keeper on, first time they run into a prop and it peels their whole rig off they'll learn

we at Double Tap Sports been serving and suporting Canadian IPSC Shooters for the past 12 years, when we started selling DAA belts we have never gone wrong by recommending to our customers to go one size bigger than there actual pant size...ie; pants 34" belt 36" so far no complains from the customers. We have all the sizes in stock.
