Oversized AR barrel extensions?

I ordered a 20" light profile barrel from a CGN sponsor and just now got around to trying to fit it into a Colt A1 upper (waiting on other parts). It won't go, because the upper measures 1.000" and the barrel extension measures 1.004". However, it does fit a flat top upper.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening, and what can I do about it short of returning the barrel to the vendor?
 
You could try and freeze the barrel and then try it?, however getting it out could be an issue?, before doing that? I'd call the vendor and see if it was an QC issue on the barrel? it may just be oversized & they will exchange it?.
 
I don't think getting it out would be too much of a problem - I'd just apply heat to the barrel nut section of the upper with a heat gun.

I have no plans for removing the barrel anyway - I won't shoot this one enough to wear out the barrel.
 
Don’t force it. Or heat it. Or freeze it. Forcing a .004 press for on a 1” diameter is a terrible idea. Your barrel extension is grossly out of spec. Return it and get another.

The extension came pre-installed on the barrel. How do I remove it?

Well, if the extension is 1.004, then your barrel is unusable. Either eat the cost or contact the retailer and try to return it.
 
Update:

The vendor has said they'll accept a return it for refund, I asked if they'd exchange it for one that's in proper spec (I think it's supposed to be 1.000 +/- .001 - could an expert or armourer confirm?) and haven't heard back from them yet.

The OD of the barrel extension is .9987 -.0008

The receiver ID is 1.000+.002 for the first 1-1/8", and 1.000+.006 for the remainder.
