Pros and cons I am thinking of installing an oversized bolt handle to my model 7. I like the leupold low rings and it is set up with a 1 piece base and a 2-7x33 VX II but It seems to me when I cycle the action a little tight ....has anyone opted for a longer bolt handle and if so what are the implications??
Thanks

Whoever installs the long handle for you will have to put enough bend on it to clear the scope bell, so send the rifle out with the scope in place. Try to ignore the temptation to sweep the bolt handle rearward. If a long bolt handle sweeps rearward it could bump your hand when the rifle recoils. If your reasoning for the longer handle is to provide more leverage for a difficult bolt lift, get the gunsmith the ensure that there is even bearing on both bolt lugs, and polish them if necessary. He can also check the bolt lug recesses. The longer bolt handle is still a good idea for a rifle that would be used in cold weather.

I use an oversize bolt handle for match shoots. More comfortable and easier to grasp. Don't want it for hunting. My hunting rigs are standard size because they do stick out a bit more and snag things a little more. You shouldn't have to worry about the handle hitting the scope if you just put on an oversized knob and it's done correctly. My scopes are very low and still clear nicely. The handles are not altered, nor swept back, just an oversized knob installed.

Never had a Rem action that was tight. You should have that checked out.
