Oversized bolt knobs are finally here!!!

Ceriksson, I can't believe a professional smith would let something go like that. Smooth some JB weld over the pinholes and sand down before painting. You'd think the gunsmith would have done something similar to fix it.

Here is a real oversized bolt knob.

I know it's just a joke but.......USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA!!!!!!!

Your installation charge is very reasonable and your knob price is too. Anodizing is an excellent finish. You have a good thing going...

I like smaller knobs on hunting rifles and I charge $75 to install a threaded knob. Those Remington knobs are very hard and it is slow going doing them by hand. I cut and grind the 700 knob round as an extension of the handle and thread it with a die. I work the rest of the handle a bit too.

This is a Defensive Edge painted knob on my hunting rifle.

That's the same method AGW used to install the bolt knob on mine, no tool marks and very nice threads too I might add. I've heard of some guys cutting the old knob off then treading the rest of the handle, but I think that it would end up quite short and funny looking.

The AGW knobs look and feel very high quality too, it is definitely a good price.

Just did a SS Rem 700 and ran into a small air pocket. Not large enough to be a problem, apparently Remington is not immune either. Next one's I do will be in the lathe and only part way up the existing knob so as to leave a shoulder for the new knob to butt against.

I can see why your install is $75, you do a very nice job working the handle.

I use a roughing bit in the mill to knock off most of the material then turn it in a jig I have made specifically for the Rem 700. It works OK, but it does take it's toll on the tooling.

My pricing is cheap because I am just starting out and with the set up I have it only takes me a half hour or less from start to finish.

If you are looking for some bolt knobs, we have dealer pricing available on them.

I have been watching the Savages a bit closer and have noticed a few hollow bits here and there. Luckily nothing to drastic yet. That is the first I have seen on a Rem handle though.

I have been thinking about doing just that with the knob, leaving a bit of a shoulder. I might give it a go on the next one. The only problem is that the relief on the knobs I have it a bit deeper than I wanted, so I am not sure there will be enough thread to make it work with this batch. Let me know how yours turns out.

I have a "take off" 700 handle here and was thinking of threading it, but had no reason to. It will be perfect for a shouldered knob prototype, cut on the lathe and start to thread then finish with the die was the plan. IF I get to it, I'll take pics. I thought of making a jig to hold the handle in the lathe for both the 700 and the Savage, same big if applies. I have other things I REALLY need to be doing

My bolt knob

Mike had some issues with the jig he was using and it slip out. The bolt handle was loose, the threads for the knob where bad, and the finnish of the old bolt handle was not so good. But with a little filing, some JB Weld, and touch up the blueing I think it will be good. Mike was good resolving the issue.

Thanks

Thanks for your understanding. I almost puked when I realized it had come loose  If there is anymore cost involved let me know and I will cover it.

Thanks again Mike

When I read your email I felt the same way and thought the worst. As you can see it cleaned up ok and the bolt handle flows good into the bolt. With the jb weld the knob is solid and not going anywhere ever again. Thanks again I think you have been more than helpful already.

Mike, When are those 6-24 scopes coming in? I need one for Mutts shoot in May.:D

They are 5.5-25x56 and 50. I probably won't have them in time for the shoot. They are expected at Falcon in May, which will likely end up being June by the time they get here.

Thanks for reminding me about the shoot though, I have donated 10 bolt knobs as prizes and need to get them in the mail!!!

Nice job Dennis!
Break out the bulk grinder wheels!
I'd like to dress up a few of my builds that way.

The bolt handle...Not the pimp-me pattern! :p

Dude you're the type of dealer I wanna support... kuddos!:)

How many Falcon 5.5-25x56 scopes are you expecting in your first order? and when they sell out when will you be expecting another shipment? I'm planning on getting one from you, just don't know if I'll be able to buy one from the first batch.

hi-jack over.

The number in the first order will depend on the demand.

We are trying not to keep too much stock on the shelves these days as sales are hit and miss lately with the economy the way it is.

The pricing is yet to be determined. We haven't gotten a firm price from Falcon yet. They introduced some pricing with the demos and then decided to make changes based on dealer feedback. The two biggest changes being one piece tube and the option of a 50mm and 56mm objective lense.

Based on what I know, the pricing should be sub-$550.
