So I was looking into a Kahles and their Competition KA418 (4-18x50) . I was wondering what people felt about Kahles? Have you had positive experiences with it? Negative? What is the glass quality like? What are the turrets like? What is their "zerostop" system like (easy/hard/good/bad)? Does it take a beating? Ever had problems with it? Tracking good?

If you can answer any/all of these it would be of great service to me! I mean they are half the price of a Schmidt and Bender or a Nightforce. Yet they have been innovative over the years, and are the oldest Optics company still around in the world today. They make their Scopes out of Austria and haven't exported to China or somewhere. So is their quality just not that good and is why they are so "cheap" or are they just reasonably priced even though they have years behind them? I would think they make quality scopes to still be around over 100 years later?

Anyway, again any input would be helpful.

Thanks,
- Adam

I own two Kahles CT 3-9x42 scopes, and I am very pleased with them. Before buying the first one,I compared it with a VX3,Conquest,and a Swarovski AV.Optically,my eyes saw a tie between the Kahles and Swarovski for first, followed by the Conquest, with the VX3 bringing up the rear. The tracking is very linear and accurate, and they seem to hold zero just fine.
The only problem with Kahles is that they no longer have a Canadian Distributor,so I had to buy my second Kahles from a dealer in New Zealand. With exchange, and shipping, the total cost worked out to slightly less than what I paid for the same scope in Canada.

Thanks for the Kahles input (with comparisions)! Anybody else?

I have a kahles 3-12x56 on my hunting rifle.I've had this for 10 years now and its
a great scope.excellent light transmission.On my varmint rifle I have a swarovski 6-18x50
it has the ballistic turret.I like the cross hair in the kahles better its a little bit thinner than
the one in my swarovski.

I'm selling my Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 to purchase a Kalhes K418 TT...

I'll tell you when I get it!!!

P.S. if anyone is looking for a Zeiss Conquest... ;)

WSS currently stocks them, been looking hard at one myself.

I have owned two Kahles scopes one hunting model 1.1-4.5 and a Tactical
ZF95 6x42, both were top quality scopes. Once you are up in that quality range there few scopes to compare. I still own a ZFM 6x42 which is a Khales/Swarovski 6x42 variant and it is superb glass.

There are a whole bunch of dealers. Most wont have it in stock but can order one in from their distributers.
You are correct. If someone seriously wants a Kahles, they will be able to get their hands on one.

Personally, I don't like being at the mercy of the distributor. I like to know the suggested retail price as well as the competitive selling price. I prefer to not have to call 3 to 5 dealers and ask these questions; if I am just shopping and not hot to buy right away.

You can only order from a Canadian distributor if there is a Canadian distributor. When Kindermann ceased to be the Canadian distributor,Canada was left with no Kahles distributor. As such,I had to order my last Kahles from a New Zealand dealer.

I recently bought a used Krieghoff drilling that was made in the 1970's and fitted with a Kahles 3-9 in claw mounts - with soldered rings. The scope had lost a seal, and the lenses had yellowed. I sent it back to the factory in Austria, and they completely refurbished it for $500. That seems expensive until you realize that it would be the same or more just to have new claw mounts fitted to another scope. My refurbished scope is good as new, and I'm a happy customer. When asked if they do repair work on their older scopes, they said yes, of course, they were just finishing up a job on one scope that was more than 80 years old!! That's the kind of commitment to long term service that I appreciate.
