Well the CFO is at it again...because of a room above our indoor range (the entire clubhouse) the CFO has closed our indoor range to pratical pistol shooting (IPSC, IDPA) unless we totally close off the rest of the clubhouse while the match is in progress, which means no access to the washrooms or kitchen. This sucks the club has just lost a major source of income because of this.
We are looking at the feaseability of installing a steel ceiling ...if they will accept that as adequate to protect anyone upstairs....mind you it will be expensive.
Needless to say all our indoor matches are cancelled untill we can find a solution.

wtf? your floor is pretty sturdy.. Is there a cheaper alternative then heavy steel? Some sort of aramid covering of something light and maintenance free?

hope you guys get it sorted I like shooting at your club.

only IPSC or IDPA is affected all other shooting is ok as long as it is from the firing line..bad part is we were just inspected a few wks ago and everything was ok...all we had to do was paint a line on the floor 10m from the backstop. The inspector was ok with the range.. however his superiors overruled him...jackasses
1/4 PLATE would work but remember the size of the clubhouse...(the range is 25m x 12mwide) and does not include the room at the bottom of the stairs thats a lot of steel and tonnage

yeah nothing like some petty burocrat looking to justify his overbloated pay cheque..

can you appeal it?

azone, sorry to hear about this new development.

If you are planning any kind of fund raising for range improvement please let us know. I for one would be more then happy to support you guys.

So, you're looking at a major re-inforcement of the ceiling, then a steel layer?

Hell with it. Build another washroom and Kitchen, back of the firing line. Cheaper.

just in case you are interested 1/4" 4'x 8' sheet is 326lbs, what about angled ceiling baffles or pouring concrete, 2-3" ,on the floor above?

I would like to think that all ranges set up like that do have a floor or set up of some kind that can stop a 44 mag bullet ripping thur my A@# while enjoying a cup of joe
I hope you guys find a resolution to this dilema, as I don't want any kind of shooting be halted & I've enjoyed the matches there very much so !

Oxford Closed to IPSC/IDPA

The inspector was ok "with the range.. however his superiors overruled him."

Can I make a suggestion, This superior must have a superior.. if not you have a M.P.P and a M.P. I think it about time you get them involved.

There is nothing in the Firearms Regulations that say you have to take everything they tell you a "that's how's its going to be" We have been playing "Nice" for much too long hoping they would leave us alone.

Well, I guess its not working, maybe it time you push back and you their own goverment against them.

Good news ...we may have found a solution that will allow us to hold the matches..keep the CPFO happy...our trap shooters happy and will allow us to use a portion of our clubhouse...all depends if the powers that be will allow it
should know soon...not in time for our Nov match though
