OZ9 Issues

Hi guys and gals,

Recently jumped on the Millbrook deal for an OZ9 full size. Just got it today and I am already experiencing issues. I realize the recall on the trigger bar is old news and I am contacting Zev and Millbrook to see if that issue has been dealt with already.

The issue I am experiencing is once a round is chambered it is very difficult to unlock and rack the slide to eject an unspent round. I have not fired the pistol yet. I have tried several different loads of 9mm and they all chamber fine, however, I have to shake and reef on the slide to elect the round.

Does any one have any experience with this?

Thanks in advance,

Dozer

Still waiting for mine. Why don’t you try shooting it first. Might just need a break in.

If I recall right I think BlackBox is taking over the warranty work for Zev stuff.

OZ9 needs a couple of hundred rounds of break-in time. Biggest issue for me was not going into battery. Couple of hundred rounds and it runs perfectly.

Probably just a new gun thing, sticky chamber with preservative oils and grease. Clean it well with good solvent and then break it in with a couple hundred rounds. Then if there's still a problem it would be time to worry but not yet.

Yes I experiences something similar but it was a non issue. I purchased an OZ9 from Millbrook in July so I paid 1799.99 . All triggers have had the upgrade so don't worry. Once you have your gun to the range you will find that it will work properly. Due to the tight tolerances it takes 200 rounds or so to smooth out. At the 500 round mark the gun went was really nice to amazing.
Just make sure to clean and lube it prior to going to the range.

Mine was tight when I got it. I disassembled and oiled generously before I shot it. After the first range trip it’s buttery smooth now.

Same issue. I was getting annoyed cuz it was the only gun i brought to range. Took about 30 rounds. I could shoot one round but the next round would chamber but the slide would not engage dully. A little tap forward on back of slide and it would.

So I've got the same issue. I put about 300 rounds through it and I'm still having the not chambering fully problem.

Definitely not happy about this, would this be a warranty issue?

Still waiting to get it to the range, however, I spoke with Black Box Customs who are a Zev warranty centre. They advised me there is an extractor issue with the guns in my ser. # range. Apparently Zev is aware and sending several parts in anticipation that a lot of the Milbrook OZ9's are defective. Black Box says there are several people on the list for the repair already. It will be fixed by Zev and apparently they are pretty good with fixing issues under warranty.

When I received my new Glock48 I had a similar issue. I would chamber a snap cap and pull the trigger, when I would try to rack the slide afterwards it was almost impossible. Just tighter tolerances that usual I guess. After a few hundred rounds it was an non issue. However, if I didn't pull the trigger there was no problem racking the slide.

Brodozer: Could you list the serial # range and if there is a specific TSB # or anything else relevant please?

kb007 here is the info you requested. I had mine replaced. This is directly from Zev.

Please check your OZ9 Standard (Full Size) Serial number:

  • ZA00001 through ZA01232
  • ZB00001 through ZB00760
  • ZEV-OZ0060 through ZEV-OZ1187

OZ9 Standard (Full Size) Pistol Owner,
We want to thank you for being a ZEV owner—specifically an owner of our OZ9 pistol. This pistol has turned out to be an amazing success since its launch in February, and we hope that you’ve had the opportunity to spend some good range time with it.
ZEV Technologies strives for perfection and has experienced very low warranty repair instances with the OZ9. However, we’ve had a limited number of OZ9 Standard pistol owners report occasional discharge of more than one round with a single trigger pull.
This has been a difficult issue to diagnose given the low incidence of these reports, our difficulty in replicating the issue and the fact that most of the reported incidents happened only after several thousand rounds had been fired. However, after exhaustive research we discovered the cause to be a particular tool used by our vendor that wore in such a way that it produced small variations when stamping one of the OZ9 trigger components. Of course, we have corrected this issue.
While we believe that only a small number of pistols within specific serial number ranges may have been affected, we want to make sure that every potentially impacted OZ9 is performing at its highest level. Therefore, we are happy to inspect your pistol and replace the trigger at no cost to you. Please see the instructions below to determine if your pistol is subject to the trigger replacement program.
ZEV maintains high standards, and we strive to exceed your expectations. But equally important, we also want you to be thrilled by how we value and treat you as a ZEV owner. We will always stand behind our products.

So I've got the same issue. I put about 300 rounds through it and I'm still having the not chambering fully problem.

Check your grip also? I only shoot steel frame guns so am used to different hold pressure. Me firming up the grip got rid of it. I did tiger grip and let go a few rounds and all of sudden it worked. From there I loosen up but not too much so I didn't get limp wrist.

I've only shot 1911, p226 and berettas forever . I just getting back into polymer and not used to the trigger and the light gunner.

The grease in gun was also chunky and hard. Not the smooth grease I know so I did clean it out and put oil on the parts. It works. Just try the grip, ammo that's not Steelcase, clean, oil and it should be fine.

I was upset to thinking this has to go back for warranty after 1 day of ownership.

Trying to diagnose at range was a beauty. Being able to with a simple punch open the gun up and take the whole assembly unit . Was beauty.

I only learned about oz9 because I was Googling to see if there was a glock steel frame out there or in the future. I love metal frames. I don't carry, competition or any reason to have a super light gun.

I just love holding a gun that's all metal. I hope p320axg and glock and many other polymer come out with a add-onn metal grip module you can add to you polymer

The mags where brand new so I only loaded 2-3 rounds in each before I started loading the full 10.. once those 2-3 results functioned fine. Than I loaded the rest

If you see another member at range whose getting good groups or is competition shooter. Maybe ask if he can try it. That person should be able to tell you if sights are off and if its working fine, than it's your wrist not locking up.

Thanks, I never had a trigger problem, but replaced the stock trigger with the fulcrum adjustable as I also have it on one of my Glocks.

Was looking for info on the extractor issue Brodozer mentioned, but haven't been able to find anything.
