I have also seen maybe 2 eddy's cracked. Both were done (I think) at the time the original '06 barrel was removed. Simple magnaflux caught one and the other was easily seen when the new barrel was torqued up.Both were 1917's. Like Dennis said the eddy's are hard to drill and harder on taps. Not a reason to discard them though, Mark

That may have as much to do with the way the barrel was removed as the hardness and its subsequent service life!
