What are the differences(if any) between the handguards for the P-14 and the M-1917?

I know the differences between the stocks(finger grooves, volley sight attachment points etc.), but not the handguards.

I think the stock parts are the same. Really the same rifle in different chamberings. Bolt and follower aren't, of course. Never found one of either in decent enough condition at the same time as having the money to buy either.
However, Gunparts lists 'em as different part numbers, but at the same price. Mind you, that's likely an inventory thing. Quite literally as part #413500A and #413500B. The P17 rear being the 'B' part. Same $22.70US for either though. 413440A and 'b' for the upper bands(muzzle). $6.55US for either.

They are essentially the same and are interchangeable. The metal liners at the front of the rear handgds are a bit different. The mounting rivets for the P14 guard are .05 in behind the inletting for the lower band, while the rivets for the M17 guard are .35 in behind. Now that's really picking flysh*it out of pepper.;)

Ditto what "purple" stated. The barrel profile on the 1917 is larger in the knox area and the first few inches than the P14. 1917 top would works well on the P14 however not vice vera. You see a lot of unissued 1917 guards in the USA for sale...however not many P14. Hope this helps, Ron

For anyone needing a front handguard, I was in Edmonton doing some work this spring and did some rummaging around in their parts bins on the way home. I saw a number of NOS handguards there and bought a couple. The fellows at the counter thought they were for an '03 Springfield.;)
