I just purchases a p-14, i beleive it's a p-14 anyways there is nothing on the rifle to say it's a p14, all there is a serial number and there is a W in front of the # and it uses a stripper clip. the poor rifle in it's life time got to meet MR bubba personnally. someone grinded out the top part where the rear sight is located and removed the front sight. that is my question, what is it supposed to look like where the rear sight is located... i'm really interested to epps the unit, cause it's probably not worth nothing after the grind job. thank you for replying.. if some one can supply a pic of top part that is greatly appreciated.

i was going to put a picture, but can't figue it out right now.

it think i got.

what is the piece that i'm missing? would you have a top view of it. i've been looking online, and it seems that it protects a micrometer site. i've got a no4mk1/2 and it has the micrometer site but it doesn't carry that bizzare housing around it. another thing too, the previous owner painted the works instead of blueing it. don't like. it's a 303. p-14 thankyou

This rifle looks familiar, Kernalvax :D

Paulzx, as Kernalvax says, Bubba went creative on your rifle. You're right, the rear sight protective "ears" were cut off, and the rifle isn't worth lots in terms of "milsurp appeal" in my opinion. Also, it looks like a spray paint can was used for the metal.

Best I can do for a pic of the rear sight:

thank you guys. those pics are awesome... i bought the right rifle to eppsize then, i've been reading that the p14 are the best ones too modify due to there higher strength.

what kinda scope is that one? and how hard are they to come by?

Calum, that sporter is nice! just needs some wood to make it pretty again :)

i've got a chop job sporter as well as the one I got from Lou, the sporter has a one of the finest barrels i've seen in a p14 and with the ugly sights it has it shoots like a laser at 50 yards, its a horrible shame someone spend a couple hours sawing and filing wood and metal

here is another view of the rear sight

Epps ' ing a P14 can induce issues. Early P-14's were known to have feeding issues with rimmed cartridges, and were modified accordingly. The Epps cartridge shape requires some re-profiling of the guide rails. Make sure the gunsmith doing the work is capable of addressing this - otherwise you may end up with a single shot.

That's been on my long running project list for some time now. I have had some close finds on wood and hardware. Hard to do this stuff on a tight family budget.

Sooner or later I'll dress her up again. I've kept her many because she has outshot every Number 4 I have tried even though it is a real parts gun mutt, ERA action, Winchester barrel, Remington bolt, etc. :D

I'm also keeping my eyes open for a P17 sporter in the same shape so I can have a poor mans Remington Model 30. :D

As for the scope in the WW2 pic, sorry I forgot what type it is.

thank you Kernalvax for that pic, that is what i was looking for.. that is really too bad somebody really tuned mine up, I really like that look of the micro site's. i guess i'll have to come up with something else. the barrel, the bolt and action has matching # too. I was thinking of putting some guide gun rail 'pictanny rail' on that one, just need to fine the supplier for that.
