P-17 Eddystone rebarreled to 300 win mag

I recently purchased said rifle.Since then I have put a Boyd pepper laminated stock under it and glass bedded and free floated it.I don't know what make of barrel was put on rifle.Scope mounts and bolt handle already done.I need to know what I need to do in order to make a tack driver out of this rifle and what it would would the approximate cost for this build be?
Have not yet shot rifle.Still need to put finish on pepper laminated stock.

Why rebarrel? Unless your barrel is shot out,all you need to do is rechamber I do believe.

There are issues with the heat treatment of some Eddystone actions. I'm not up do date on it, but it's worth looking into.

I am not up to date on the heat treat either... but in the 60's we were taught not to do anything with an Eddystone as they are quite brittle actions...the Remington and Winchester ones are much more desirable. That being said I have seen a few magnums built on Eddystones... personally I don't like to work on any of them anymore...

I would shoot it first to see how it shoots, only then would I think about rebarreling the rifle.

The 'issues' involved some gunsmiths cracking the action when they tried to take off the barrel. This was because some barrels were put on very tightly. The soluation is to make a relief cut on the old barrel. To my knowledge, there have been no instances of P14 or M1917 actions failing without having been rebarreled.
