Yesterday I got a 1961 dated ex-Bundeswehr P-38. The P-1 designation (I just learned) did not start until 1963. The odd thing about it was that it came with a G-3 cleaning kit.

Cleaning kits for the G-3 and the P-38/P-1 were very nearly identical.

The biggest difference would be the diameter of the bronze brush, which was a consumable, anyway.

Great cleaning kits, too!

I have a collection of post war P38 pistols. French made Berlin Police Guns with Berlin holsters, like the ww2 officer's holsters. German made P38's with regular
holsters and holster hanger's. I also have a P38 with matching 22 conversion kit and a P1 with a matching 22 conversion kit. These gun's will all be collectable's. I
also have a number of P4 's in consecutive number's with holster's. These were the last P38's made and are single/ double action with a shorter barrel. They didn't make
all that many, as the new walther P5 pistol was issued, they were developed from the P4. The P4 was issued and then withdrawn from police service and the condition is exc++ to mint.

Walther P1 was the first handgun I ever owned and regret selling it as it was such a sweet and accurate gun to shoot.

The WW2 guns are also good guns to have. They never had the following that luger's had. But, they are good guns and the accessories are very collectable. I remember
when one could go to gun shows and buy ww2 P38 holster's etc for $20.00 or less. I have a big box of ww2 holster's etc from doing this. I did it again buying post war
p38 stuff. The post war stuff is available and collectable.

Those days are long gone. P38 holsters sell for as much as lugers if you want a genuine WWII holster and not postwar.

I have two postwar, they were like $10 each, too good to pass up!
