Did a search on this and not too much came up so I'm gonna ask anyone here with info on +P and +P+ ammo for 9mm handgun.

If one were comparing a 115grain +P+ VS 124 grain +P Speer Gold Dot JHP which would be more powerful and have more kick?

Thanks.

So, I have a case of 9mm IVI, CF issue. It is in 64 rnd. boxes from what I have been told for the 32 rnd mags of Sten??? Anyhow, I have also been told it is loaded hot for SMG, that make it +P++???

If the headstamp includes a circle with a "plus sign" (+) inside it, that means the ammo is loaded to NATO specifications, and must be regularly tested to insure it is within spec.
If the ammo doesn't have the "circle-cross" it may not be to NATO spec.

Nope, its +p or +p and a bit. Nice ammo, clean. Nice in carbines.
Fine in pistols in moderation(or stick in a heavier spring if your worried about wear)

"...more kick..." Think physics. A heavier bullet will have more felt recoil than a lighter bullet. Just remember that not all 9mm pistols can handle +P ammo, never mind +P+.
"...9mm IVI, CF issue...+P++???..." Nope. It has always been used in both the pistol and the SMG. There is no 9mm for the pistol and different 9mm for the SMG. IVI didn't exist when the CF used STENs either.

I believe that there now is a "pistol" 9mm. I understand the SIGs can't stand a constant diet of NATO spec ammo.

This is the stuff I have

From a thread http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57813

To any of you who have shot this stuff, is it any good? Also what are the specs? Bullet weight etc..

It's NATO spec, which means the bullets are between 7 and 8 grams (about 108 and 125 grains), and pressures run around 42 000 PSI (IIRC)
I understand that IVI did use various weights of bullets depending on lot. I've heard of 115s and 124s.

The RUAG 9mm ball ammo is Nato spec, and its the swiss standard pistol ammunition who use sigs...

What you shouldnt do is shoot it out of #### Norinco SIG copies, only there true steel guns can handle it.

looks just like the stuff we use in the CF... always worked fine for me.

Yes, it is...

I have had no issues with it, it is a bit snappy. Just wondering if it would be considered +P+???

I believe it was Bartok5 who posted about the issues he's personally had and personally witnessed with the IVI ammo and the CF SIGs. (that is to say severly shortened lifespans)

I'm most inclined to take his word as a highly informed viewpoint.

Shooting higher power ammunition out of any pistol will lessen its lifespan compared to shooting it with some slow garbage. TSE's redleg has already in the past on this forum pointed out that he has had less issues with SIG's holding up from powerfull ammunition then other pistols.

no, only +p (as stated nato spec 9mm is north american +P)

and, no don't shoot it, the world will end, you should ship it all to me for safe disposal....:D (I won't even charge for the service!)

I have been enjoying this stuff on a regular basis, just wondering where it stood in the "P, +P" ratings
