P-Mag Rant

If true then why cant P mag meet Mil-Spec ;)

I have never seen a major issue with the CF metal mags but every guy in my unit who bought PMags have cracked feed lips. Now the Lancer is a nice mag and they atleast they had the sense to use steel lips.

Yup. I'd take my CF mags every day over my p-mags. Although the gen 3s are pretty nice.

But its easier to buy a P-mag and have a pretty good idea of what your getting. I've handled and owned some pretty dismal USGI mags in my time.

Don't seem that way to me.....

Pmags are light years ahead of USGI mags, this is an undisputed fact.

Magazines are disposable regardless of who makes them or what they're made of. A USGI can't take a tenth of the abuse a Pmag can, and that's not taking reliability or lack thereof into account.

Mags are mags. It's reliability that matters.

They're a consumable item no matter how you cut it, it doesn't matter who makes it or what it's made out of, eventually the mag will cease to function reliably from the use you subject it to. It's the fact that the manner in which you use your mags will not be the same as how your neighbour does that makes your mileage vary based on make and model.

I say if the guy can get 50$ per mag it's on the buyer who is obviously not paying attention. There has been several dealers get them in in the past week for 25-30$. Yes they sell out fast but if you are on the ball they can be found alot cheaper than 50$

Mil SPEC is a test protocol. I'm not sure what portion of that protocol the Pmag is unable to achieve, but more experienced and knowledgeable people than you and I, run Pmags exclusively. Last I checked, a USGI doesn't survive being stepped on let alone abused in ways Pmags have been to prove their worth. The link above has a great user test of all the magazines, and not surprisingly the USGI failed. As for cracked lips, so what? Toss the mag and run a new one. USGI mags suffer from bent lips and often go unnoticed/diagnosed. I'd sooner see a visual crack/failure then hope the feed lips aren't bent out of spec.

The douche-bag is not the guy selling the mags for $50 a piece, the douche-bag is the guy buyin 'em. Let them sell for whatever..and if you're a douche with too much money...buy 'em. I dont even look at the ads on the EE titled WTS: Pmags. Unless I'm in need of a good chuckle. IBTL

Four years ago I sold all my aluminum magazines (mostly C-Products) and bought all P-mags because they were reliable. For the longest time the magazine was the weakest link in the AR15 system. Ever since Magpul cornered the magazine market by selling something that wasn't actually crap, others have pitched in some pretty great products. These days, if you try to sell trash, you won't sell much.

I just paid $21.99 2 weeks ago from a local retailer. Magpul dealers in Alberta got 300 each and sold out in 1-2 days.
Just be patient and you can get them for what they are really worth.
Anyone that pays $50 or more per mag needs to give their head a shake and quit drinking the Magpul Kool-aid. They are nice but not worth that much more than a GI mag.
