Hey i was just wondering what i should expect by putting +P ammo through a 9mm pistol since it was made as Uzi ammo. My firearms instructor told us not to use +P so I duess i'm just curious as to what kind of damage I can inflict on my gun.

If your instructor said no, then why temp fate? You could always try it and let us know how you made out. But you're on you own

I had used a lot of +P ammo in a S+W 5906. As long as your pistol is of a quality build there should be no reason not to use it. What type of pistol are you using? What type/manufacture of ammo?

You'd definitely need to tell the model of pistol for a question like that. A lot of modern guns would be perfectly fine, some, especially older ones wouldn't be able to take them.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to put something potentially more harmful through your firearm? Added pressure and velocity aren't great bonuses when the guns these days are made to finer specifications.

x2 to the "Depends on the gun" statements.... Why tempt faith (sic)?

I also was going to ask you why you would want to shoot +P rounds. If you were to carry a handgun (legally of course) for protection then I could see loading +P. Otherwise what is the point?

I design electronics for a living. The company I work for sells a lot of products with power relays. Relays have a current rating from the manufacture. This rating is based on a specific lifespan. You can switch more current than the rating but you end up with a shorter lifespan. If you push it a lot you get a really short lifespan.

If you want more recoil then buy a gun designed for a more powerful cartridge.

Your instructor is confused, but it depends on the pistol. If your's is rated by the manufacturer for +P ammo it'll be fine. If it isn't, you'll batter its parts severely and quite possibly have a catastrophic failure. As in Kaboom.

Agreed !
DO some research to see if yours is good. +P ammo works fine (and sometime recommanded) in almost all modern pistols

Most police force provide their troops with +P and even sometime +P+...
Sureté du Qc has +P Win Ranger for their Glock 17 and 19

Sigs are good to go
Same with CZ

Your instructor is out to lunch

Proper european 9mm loads are closer to +p then what american ammunition makers push. Most military pistols are designed to take +p to begin with. My Russian viking is meant to shoot +p+ standard.

If you are using surplus ammo, just make sure it isn't +P+. There is/was some subgun ammo around that is considerable hotter than +P.

As stated above, +P is not much more that regular ammo.
