Does anyone know if an after-market trigger is available for a P14 action that incorporates a safety switch like on a timney Mauser 98 trigger?

I want to weld up the stock safety on a sportere P14 receiver and go with a more streamlined safety setup.

Alternately, do any shroud-mounted safeties exist for this action?

Yes, one of the makers down south (I forget which one though) builds a Win 70 type safety for these. I'm not sure why you would bother, the standard safety works fine with a scope, although it is a little homely it's true. Timney used to do a safety trigger combo, but I'm not sure that they still do (that was quite a while ago), but the stock safety is a much better choice then this anyway. FWIW - dan

I asked the same question a while ago here and the only shroud safety that I could find for the enfield (for the 1917) was by Ed Lapour Gunsmithing in the states. Someday I'd like to get one for a project. I personally find the stock safety fugly and I prefer the winchester 70 style safety.

Any chance on rememberin g who builds the swing safeties? I've tried Brownells, NECG, Gentry and Dakota. None of them advertise such a part :(

As for the timney, they no longer seem to make one with a safety.

The stock safety may work fine, but it's FAR too ugly to keep. :(

OUCH! Holy Cow! Just got this e-mail from the supplier:

The Enfield kit is $240.00 plus $7.00 priority mail.
Thanks, ED

That's US dollars too, by the way... In comparison, the Gentry M98 version is only $150.

I know you're interested in the P14 safety but re: the Gentry 98's, over on Accurate Reloading, there has been a number of posts belly-aching about the lack of quality of the Gentrys and some good comments about the Ed LaPours.

Hmm... interesting, but for what it;s worth I have a Gentry on my custom Mauser and it's fantastic. Maybe I got a rare good one?
